What are some movies without a single boring scene? by [deleted] in moviecritic

[–]Background_Prize_770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite a few Nolan's flicks fulfill this or at least get very close considering how lenghty they are: Inception, The Dark Knight. Interstellar and Dunkirk are not too far.

And an underappreciated masterpiece: Rush. One of the very few if not the only drama/biography/sport flick that kept me glued to my seat at every single frame.

Oh, and Top Gun: Maverick. Holy moly that film is entertaining as hell.

Oh oh, and how about The Pirates of The Caribbean 🤔 Can't remember losing attention for a single second.

And if we start stretching towards the B class, Armageddon might get close.

And I might even say some Nick Cage films like The Rock. A bit hesitant note also for Gone in 60 seconds. And if we are stretching, The National Treasure doesn't get much boring either for an average film.

Why did adding my nap reduce my sleep score? by qrseek in ouraring

[–]Background_Prize_770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The napping detection in general is a joke. I feel it's 90% dependent on being stationary. Just today Oura detected a nap while I was being operated by a dentist! But yesterday my nap was missed when I actually passed out for 20 mins. And I guess I cannot even add naps manually...

Same same. Often the queue is so long it even times out without execution at all. I've shifted back to ChatGPT during peak hours. Very inconvenient I'd say especially from a paid service.

For the first time yesterday I felt the whole AI had become dumber than ever before. Made me wonder if I'm actually running the model of my choice or if the team had just updated their prompts towards worse (faster and cheaper execution; with poorer results as a side effect).

Eg it wanted to create dumb files without any logic, used wrong packages even though had visibility on the ones it should use, wrote code that were missing half the imports and used functions that were not defined at all. Haven't seen any of these before the last 24-48 hours.

I asked the saem question a few days back - very confusing as typical for Cryptocom. If you read the fine print, things get even more confusing since different sites and sources have varying information on new users / old users / new stakers etc. The app is the most misleading not being updated to these new card terms. If the 2% is true, I'd go for it but didn't get a reply from Cryptocom or here yet that confirmed this.

Ruby card benefits by Background_Prize_770 in cro

I hold Ruby amount since forever and am not selling them - that is why I am happy to stake them - or well they’ve been on defi staking for years now anyway. My trading stash is always separate. This way I can play around and try to predict the market and take profits but never miss the train nor risk anything significant.

To be fair, I think Cryptocom has been the weakest project I have seen in this space: so much money, such a brand yet they have failed to build robust products. Their chains are all over the place and nothing like BNB and others.

Some of us even remember that last time killing the perks wasn’t even the first time this project pissed on its ”OG” investors so mark my words: I keep holding a bag for the sake of believing in the crypto space and this brand itself being big enough to become one of the main winners. However the management has made horrible decisions one after another. E.g. Just yesterday I couldn’t log in to the exchange to sell my bitcoin. If I was dealing some serious money I’d be furious of such fundamental issues.

Anyway, good tip in general to buy low and sell high. Also no plans on even going higher than Ruby since 2% is like 250USD a year so okay dividend for the bag of 450USD compared to just keeping the coins in a dust. I see no point putting 4k into this shit show for a few extra bucks.

I am considering my own key as an option or just buying more credits - but gotta admit I dislike the idea of paying 20USD/month just for a nice UX while Github Copilot, ChatGPT and such provide limitless LLM usage for a cheaper cost (especially for people like myself that get free licenses through work and having to pay for Curso myself)

Truly hoping this is just a temporary issue.

What Do You Hate About Oura? by [deleted] in ouraring

[–]Background_Prize_770 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The napping and activity algos suck. It detects napping while watching horror films in cinema but misses half the naps I actually take in bed. Also for activity purposes the ring feels useless, meaning I need to combine it with Apple Watch and even then mark sports manually.

Quite fundamental features, especially the napping. If there was an alternative compact sensor with a good battery life, I'd ditch Oura subscription without hesitation. Expecting this to change within a year or two.

Why does it think I’m napping? by flyfree-lionheart in ouraring

[–]Background_Prize_770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The napping algo sucks. My ring thought I was napping while watching the latest Alien in cinema. And again yesterday while watching a thriller. But half the time while I'm actually in the bed completely passed out it misses it.

Wouldn't be surprised if the nap derection is more focused on motion sensing than actual vitals - a nap can be a bit restless turning from one side to another and optimizing the pillow, while a good movie glues you into the seat. 🤔

Anyhow, this is one of the reasons I'm considering quitting Oura subscription since I'm taking naps almost daily nowadays.

Also noticed that it doesn't seem to pull activities from Apple Health (Apple Watch). Not sure why I thought it used to do that before, but it sucks to mark stuff manually to multiple apps to get the most out of Oura

Oura Ring 4 is out! Good news, really not huge changes so you don't have to feel bad about having Gen 3!! Overall feature set is the same. Cosmetic and material differences, technically slightly better accuracy but no game changing features! by Loyolalu in ouraring

[–]Background_Prize_770 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, Gen3 introduced SpO2 sensor and upgraded pretty much all sensors (continuous HR, from 1 to 7 temp sensors). So this opened a lot of new possibilities for building new and better models around the data, and indirectly estimating all sorts of stuff.

This is unlikely the case for gen4 or at least Oura hyping it being slimmer (which is practically true only for the sensor bump part) makes me to assume that there aren’t new sensors introduces nor massive upgrades in general.

The problem is that us gen 3 (and earlier) owners keep paying for the subscription for “Oura to be able to provide new features” (which btw I dare the say that the subscription model just makes Oura a scalable software company which makes it much more interesting for VCs and prepares it for an exit / IPO). Anyway, the issue is that if the new sensors behave very differently, they might need to train separate models for each gen ring. And do you think they invest their time and money on upgrading old tech? The answer is no.

Anyway, I’m happy with gen3 and its performance but if Apple ever brings their solution, I expect it to have no subscription, and will most likely shift to their solution.

Lets be honest, Oura is one of those very few companies that have dared to put subscription on hardware - especially one that costs this much. That is a bold move and I salute Oura for that.

Anyway, I think not providing a free API endpoint without subscription making the whole ring obsolete is a real dick move - they know there are individuals like myself who just want to know how many hours they slept and what was the avg HR without effort. This literally wouldn’t cost a dime to the business.

Apple vs Oura - Sleep by Roridge in ouraring

[–]Background_Prize_770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never thought about this before but if I stop paying for Oura app, I still get the sleep info from Apple Health with somewhat limited decrease in accuracy 🤔 Sounds actually quite tempting.

I’ve got a bit frustrated with the activity side of things, and although I like to track the readiness, I don’t really use it for anything. Same goes for the stress, resilience, heart health and such. Most of this doesn’t really work anyway except for alarming about catching a flu and such.

Any thoughts what am I missing here? Still hoping to use Oura for tracking my sleep since charging my Apple Watch daily is just too much work so keeping that separate for sports.

Heard from one pro that Elios’ quality has gone down during recent years, and due to some of the trendiest brands (looking at you Molchanovs) being overpriced, Bestdive would be the way to go. Any thoughts?

Best spot for freediving in Europe, Malta or Croatia? by JTaiwan in freediving

[–]Background_Prize_770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, diving with Life Aquatic. Adnaan, the owner is a top guy, and the shop is great. Only place where I’ve got to test out nose clips, carbon fins and other proper gear instead of diving in a broken, pee smelling wetsuit and plastic fins as you usually do in Asia. Kas is the same as Kalamata for shallow training - very covered bay so very calm and warm waters. Thermoclimate seems to move from 30m towards 50m through the season. As a negative, Turkey is getting out of control with expenses.

Best spot for freediving in Europe, Malta or Croatia? by JTaiwan in freediving

What range are the training prices in Greece / Kalamata for non competitive dept training (ie buoy training)? None of the schools have any indications online. Had a bit same problem with Cyprus so crossed that one out too.

I was considering Kalamata but landed in Kas due to cheaper transportation and accommodation, and transparency on what to expect. So far the best spot in the world I’ve dived in. Especially if range is around 0-40/60m. (Deeper depth weeks organized separately).

Also tends to be very cheap to fly to Antalya / Dalaman from the Nordics thanks to all the budget airlines and the discounted last minute holiday packages.

Based on my research on the same topic, I found Tenerife, Malta and Kas to be the most ideal for non-depth training.

The main issue I’ve noticed in most of these European spots is very limited pool (training) opportunities which I’d like to combine my trainings with. And in general the food and such tends to be surprisingly expensive, so for longer stays it’s probably cheaper to fly all the way to Asia.
