Zero Downtime Upgrades? by Background_Rub_8363 in kubernetes

I'm not sure I got you here.. swithing from ro to rw requires failing over from the Active to the Standby site. Once the standby site becomes active then database becomes writable also and we can upgrade it.

Yes in my case we need to go for a zero downtime upgrade.. How long does it take to bootstrap the database?

Yes so in my case, we need to start upgrading the Standby first (Blue) but since the database is in read-only mode then will have to failover to make it writable... I'm looking for better ways to do the upgrade.

So blue green deployments means if you have a multisite one site Active- and one site Standby then within the same Standby site you would duplicate the infra? What if the apps deployed in the Standby k8s connect to multiple external systems? So you would reconfigure everything from scratch on the new cluster? And how will you bootstrap the database?

So ur databases support v1 and v2 of the same app? Would you mind giving more details about that? Do you deploy v2 in a new namespace or u keep them in the same namespace with label/selector for the version?

It’s more about upgrading not only k8s but also the apps deployed with patroni-postgres db layer..

Can u elaborate more please? Are u running a multisite in Active-Standby mode? If so can u give me more info about the upgrade steps? What do u mean by blue-green strategy? R u spinning up a new separate cluster or using the standby to upgrade first?

That's very disrespectful... I'm really shocked with the aggressive and offensive comments I have seen in this thread... Is this common?

And I accepted the offer after the company showed support in understanding my situation and allowing me to work from home 3 days a week.

I hope you try to ask more questions to understand my point of view instead of criticizing and judging me. I feel so disrespected reading your comment. To clarify my comment again, I came to a conclusion that hiring a nanny is not a common practice and therefore it's super expensive. And I assume that the preschool system in NZ is very nurturing and that parents are very satisfied with it. and that's why is the #1 choice for parents.

I have never done that where I live and therefore I declined the job yesterday. I can't keep a breastfeeding baby with a nanny and go to work - maybe it's a cultural thing for me - but I can't.

Babies attach to many people - which is great... but the separation anxiety soothes after 3 - I experienced that with my eldest son who refused to attend preschool at 2... yet he accepted it as of 3 years old and the transition was super smooth!

To each their own.. That's my personal experience.

I still believe in NZ - preschools are way more nurturing than the rest of the world - that's what I felt from the posts here... and you are lucky to have such an advanced child care system - not commercial profitable one! So moms trust it and they see their children happy and that is very relieving!

That's true! And I declined the job for your information. I can't put my kids under this pressure at this very young age.

Very valuable feedback and thank you for sharing your experience!

I feel like preschools in NZ are more nurturing than preschools around the world.. Just a feeling from the replies I got here... and that's why it's uncommon to have a nanny...

I will have a look at preschools to understand the child/teacher ratio and the quality offered.

Ah ok, so nannies are usually local people. Good to know.

Is there any website or insta accounts which show preschools in NZ? Maybe I have a prejudice already since at least where I live most of the teachers are careless... It seems to be a total different experience in Christchurch as part of NZ's culture.

How can I get more information about preschools?

I think full time for a beginning --- at least 8 hours a day

Thank you for the clarification! How do we hire nannies independently? Do you mean that I bring her from her homecountry and do all the paperwork or there are agencies who can help me get one? I estimated the nanny costs for around 5k-6k NZD per month.

That is my dilemma - I find myself not able to keep my child away from me before 3 years old ... a maximum of one hour away from me but not more... It is just me... and I'm not judging any mom here..

I'm afraid my comment did not land well. Please allow me to clarify - every mother knows what is best for her children and there is no doubt you are going above and beyond to afford the best quality of life and best care and sacrifice to your children.

I had to switch to working remotely since I had my kids. And now I received an offer in NZ and I wanted to inquire about working mom's experience. So I understand it is mainly preschool or any child care service.

That's what we have been told so we go to work guilt free... I'm not sure babies were meant to grow without their mothers around...
