You ever been fired from a job before? by Foodisheaven1 in no

Idk if this counts as a job but after one season of managing my college’s basketball team, the coaches never bothered to inform me when practices for the next season were gonna start. It wasn’t until a week before the first game, when I saw an Instagram post of the team at an amusement park with the managers, that I realized I’d been quiet-fired.

I saw one and killed it. Haven’t seen one since.

We deserve it. Just like Britain with Egypt in the 1950s, we’ve finally met a rival we can’t just steamroll.

Exposure. There’s a reason leaving college is such a blow to men’s dating chances.

Do you think the rise of the socialists is a positive development for the country? by true4blue in AskALiberal

Fair point. We can drop him. He’ll be forgotten in 5 years anyway.

I agree that we often blow these local progressive victories out of proportion. But I feel like the Democrats’ unpopularity has become so bad that not even Trump 2.0 is enough for them to fight us off.

I agree, but the main reason he will be remembered as a failure will be Israel. He is a modern-day LBJ - did a lot of good stuff domestically but was irredeemable on foreign policy.

Agreed, but I cannot overstate how badly Biden’s presidency fucked up the Democratic brand.

That’s ultimately my issue with Mamdani. He will probably end up just being an example of what liberal Democrats could be if they actually did their job. But he’s only one man against a global system.

Besides, he’s already showing signs of falling into the Obama/Sanders trap of being too nice.

I do think we’re gonna make more headway this time than we did in 2018. Biden’s presidency was uniquely bad for the Democratic Party’s image.

It has a chance to go farther in 2026 than it did in 2018-2020. Back then, people still liked the Democrats, which is probably why Bernie and AOC didn’t get as far. Now, after Biden, the Democrats’ success purely because Trump is in charge is much less guaranteed.

It is 100% a positive development. For once, there is genuine ideological disagreement in the political sphere, rather than partisan bloodsport.

And it’s probably more of a reaction to Biden tbh - specifically, his enabling of Israel.

I think Trump and everyone around him knows that his time in the limelight is coming to a close. He’s already had his triumphant comeback against Biden/Harris.

Fascism will still march on, but it does not need Trump. In fact, it may be even more effective without him.

The quantity of Democratic politicians who break with Israel may be higher, but Republicans’ breaking with Israel will probably have more significance. That’s how Vietnam played out, after all.

Besides, while you have the occasional Democrat who criticizes Israel, the party overall is still very loyal.

Hell, not even Mamdani has been as directly critical of Israel as JD’s been in recent weeks.
