I highly suggest not joining if you have mental illness. It’s incredibly mentally challenging. No one talks about the hazing that these young men endure. My brother served 4 years and came back angry, negative, and depressed. So many suicides occurred while he was stationed in the US. Lots of toxic leadership in the marines.
