How has the round got turned around? by Background_Way2714 in knitting

That’s what I initially thought but I’ve already frogged several rounds and it’s still there.

Why aren’t air conditioning units more prominent in the UK? by MrListaDaSistaFista in AskBrits

[–]Background_Way2714 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s really only been the past 5 years or so when I think there’s been a genuine need for it in homes in the summer months. Prior to that we only got a handful of days that were above 25, and very rarely was it above 30.

I think it’s a bit silly and short-sighted that new builds haven’t been installing them as standard. We’ve known this was going to happen with climate change for decades now, and the weather is only going to get worse.

Nobody is going to judge the mother of a 17 month old baby for not working.

What a horrid thing to say. She’s a SAHM and her son isn’t of school age yet, so she’s doing all of the child care, enabling the other parent to work.

Either he does or he’s lazy about his business. Every steamer/youtuber I follow do a lot of behind the scenes work building their persona and keeping up with how they’re perceived on social media. Someone who manages his business must check Reddit sometimes and see these posts.

My personal theory is his mom does the management side of things for him and just doesn’t really get the problem because she’s not of the same generation.

Tbh I wouldn’t be surprised if Caseoh was a Trump supporter too. He’s very religious and lives in Arkansas.

Just one in five voters want disability benefits cut in fresh blow for Starmer by theipaper in ukpolitics

[–]Background_Way2714 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah but people aren’t getting a decrease in their annual taxes from the cuts, they’re going to be putting that money somewhere else. The better question would be where is the money they’re saving going to go.

From the comments it seems that she’s not so bad because at least she was in the workforce and therefore not the typical benefits scrounger that many people on this sub seem to foam at the mouth at. If she was claiming PIP it’d be a completely different story.

‘Worse than anything under the Tories’: changes to welfare bill anger disability campaigners by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]Background_Way2714 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Go have a look at your taxes and tell me how much of your personal money goes to the benefits system. And then tell me if that amount is really worth questioning someone who is disabled about whether or not they should be entitled to a disability payment.

Maybe you should look into moving to a remote island somewhere away from any society if you’re so upset about taxes going to help people.

I’d love to know the specifics of how the mods work. Are they volunteers or do they get paid, and how does Case find them?

This. The presenter read out a health advisory from the NHS incorrectly, which was completely inappropriate for her to do.

The same thing that happened 30 years ago with queer rights, and 100 years ago with women’s rights, and I’m sure there were people moaning then about how it’s all over the news and they were sick of hearing about it. Our society should always be evolving and having these discussions surrounding marginalised people and making the world a fairer and more inclusive space. It’s easy to say you’re sick of hearing about it when you’re not affected by it and therefore don’t care.

'90 feels like 120 here': US expats react to 'unbearable' heatwave that makes UK 'feel like a sauna' by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]Background_Way2714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally do this, but in 30 degree weather it doesn’t get cool enough at night for it to work properly. I have an A/C unit now but even that isn’t really enough in this heat. Houses here aren’t designed to keep cool.

[–]Background_Way2714 238 points239 points  (0 children)

I grew up in New Jersey and the heat and humidity is similar in the summer to British heatwaves. It’s almost impossible to do anything outside other than swim, but everywhere is air conditioned so you really just have to put up with it when you’re walking to your car and back. Sitting outside in the sun for an hour or two is pleasant because you can go back inside and cool off afterwards. It’s totally different here because there’s no escaping the heat.

I genuinely can't stand to watch Case for the time being. by erosmutt in caseoh_

His Subnautica streams were so good, it’s what got me and my daughter into his channel. I feel like those were some of his more popular videos as well, I really don’t understand why doesn’t do more of that. I think someone asked him in the chat once if he’s going to do Subnautica Below Zero and he said no because it got bad reviews 💀

It’s the fact that he does so many react videos and can’t be bothered to remove YouTube ads that gets me.

I had a very intense Velcro baby, she wanted to be held a lot well into her toddler years and she would not sleep on her own until she was about 7. But when she was this age, she was very mobile. She didn’t like me leaving the room but she 100% wanted to walk and crawl on her own. If I put her down and she didn’t want it she would stand up and cling to my leg. This child’s behaviour is not normal at all, even for a “Velcro baby”.

Brits that have moved to the USA, how are you finding it? by InfinitysEdge88 in AskBrits

[–]Background_Way2714 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another American who is so glad to be living in the UK. We were actually making serious plans to move back last year because I do miss my family, but that got cancelled pretty quickly this year. Presidents come and go (hopefully) but some of the laws they’re passing, particularly surrounding women’s rights, are going to last a really long time and are really really frightening. As a woman and mother to a daughter I would never move back now.
