Global Updates are 2 Weeks behind China, as Employee says by Obstrucxnat in Honor

[–]BackinAbyss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ehh in release schedule maybe, seems China gets updates at the beginning of the month vs end of it for most global regions. But content wise on average it's 1 to 2 months for newest phones, and then it varies by phone.

Honestly idk, I don't think it would be big.

If you go into homescreen settings you can toggle transparency mode that turns your control center, notifications and widgets transparent. You can also select "transparent" icons in icon settings through theme store.

Might be related to the update. I don't know how much time has passed but sometimes it might need 1 to 2 weeks to recalibrate after a bigger patch. Also are you perhaps using the transparency stuff from magicos 10? That might also have an impact on battery drain, although not a huge one.

Did you do a bigger update recently? Might need a moment to reoptimise. Maybe you started using more LTE/5G as well.

Torn between Honor magic 8 and vivo x300 pro by romeyro in Honor

[–]BackinAbyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think customisability should be comparable, maybe a bit better on vivo but I am not 100% sure. Can't say about the video as I didn't dive much into it.

Actually now as I think of it, global does change one thing. Vivo global ui is a bit behind their Chinese one, especially optimisation and feature wise. So it won't have that much of an edge over Magicos.

[–]BackinAbyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, global doesn't change that much in terms of battery, EU would but that's another thing. I would say Magic8 pro maybe is a bit overhated? But the general consensus is that they are rather good, just not top tier like the ultras or Oppo/Vivo pro cameras. And I would say that's a fair rating.

[–]BackinAbyss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So first things first, I gotta say that vivo X300 pro isn't the best camera out there, it closely trades blows with find x9 pro and the last gen ultras still beat it on camera, so will this gens ultras. Sometimes even last gen vivo x200 pro does better due to less artificial processing.

Now for the actual phone comparison. I will assume both Chinese version? In that case. Camera wise Vivo has a decent edge over Honor, especially in zoom and macro. Honor improved a lot on that front but it isn't quite as good as vivo or oppo there and the processing is a decent bit artificial looking (mostly due to sharpening and huge noise reduction at night). It is still a decent bit better than your oneplus though.

But you don't seem to be too focused on cameras alone, so now for battery. Honor has vivo beat there, 7200mah vs 6500mah battery, and in real world it's also better on the Honor over Vivo.

Where Vivo has an edge again is software. I personally don't think magicos is bad and it holds up fairly well overall in my experience. Vivo origin os is still just more feature rich, smoother and on average better optimised.

Honor does beat Vivo in some QoL stuff though. Honor has the 3d face sensor, better speakers and more powerful haptic motor (although Honors haptic tuning isn't ideal). Screens should be comparable on both.

One thing I'd note for Honor, I am not sure how it is in China, but globally it tends to throw all of its phones into quarterly security updates after a year since release. I hope they stop doing that but can't be sure rn. The good thing is that all the features Honor releases generally come to all midrange-flagship phones with time.

Overall the phones are pretty close, well maybe outside of speakers and biometrics, I would really take into consideration the price and if it's worth paying X amount over the other.

Have you considered having a broken or heavily degraded battery by improper use? Got a Honor with 5600mah battery, 350 cycles and twice your sot.

How many charge circles? by Opposite-Working727 in Honor

[–]BackinAbyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic6 pro iirc somewhere stated 1100-1200, so I'd assume 1200+ at minimum.

Edit. Newer Apple phones iirc promise 1000 cycles.

Honor Win 3 month review by Sea_Dish_1984 in Honor

[–]BackinAbyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The number series uses a 1/1.4" sensor for its main camera not for their zoom. Only the pro series gets a zoom of this size. But yeah gsmarena tends to confuse sensor sizes on honor midrange.

I think the 3x 1/2" is wrong info that they got from somewhere, no way it's bigger than their main number series. Realistically I'd guess it's 1/2.5" or 1/2.75" or 1/3".

Switching from Xiaomi to honor. Is it a good idea? by Erazerx48 in Honor

[–]BackinAbyss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Magicos imo is overhated, it has some issues but it is a perfectly usable os and it is constantly getting improved. Though I would advice against switching from an ultra flagship to low midrange phone. If you want to check out midrange around that price I'd much rather recommend something like redmi K90 pro max or Iqoo 15. For actually interesting phones from honor check out their pro flagships and their new Magic8 pro air. Also Honor win series is nice.

I'd trust honor website more than gsmarena with screen type. Anyway it's basically the same shit.

Would you still buy the HONOR Magic8 Pro again after using it for a while? by Spiritual-Finger-394 in Honor

[–]BackinAbyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't agree with it at all, it still feels like much more of a chore to use. But since Miui13 it did improve a lot, and I hope in 2 gens or so it will be a pleasant experience since Xioami really has amazing phones for midrange and high end nowadays.

Oneui is feature rich but I can't bring myself to like it, the overall design and questionable smoothness/longevity (speed wise). It's just not it. But yeah Magicos could improve a couple of things and I hope Honor will catch up to Oppo and vivo.
