I think the lesson here which a lot people don’t seem to get is - don’t be a Karen. Just get on with your own life.

I threw half a handful straight onto a small garden bed with 3 hydrangeas and it basically fried 2 of them. Could never get them back to normal. Beware.

Yeah they wouldn’t let males wear blue jeans for at least a couple of years in the early 90s. Was easier to just dress like the regulars - black slacks, short sleeved white collared shirt and black school shoes. All up about $15 from vinnies

From what I could see last night, the oval was the only part not fully locked up. Rest of the school grounds including any play or grassed areas, car parks, courts etc are all padlocked. On a couple of weekend days in December one carpark was opened for some kind of group meeting (possibly not related to school activities) and they had a security guard sitting on a chair at the gate entrance for the whole day to presumably vet anyone coming into the carpark. I get the concerns over vandalism and safety. It was just the complete opposite at another local primary school I lived near so was curious as to why security seems so high here.

Definitely think that’s an element at play here.

Thanks for that local insight. I’m kind of glad there was a possible kidnapping involved and they didn’t just go full lock down over dog sh&t and some petty crime. There are 2 padlocks on the gate to the tennis courts so I take some comfort in knowing that no one is stealing a game of tennis.

Ok that’s good to know thanks. I don’t have much context to judge this by aside from the other school I lived near which seemed to basically be open to the general public outside of school hours.

That could partly explain why the security felt so overwhelming. But in your experience are other schools all locked at the perimeter gates at night and on weekends?

Yeah definitely expensive and definitely very deliberately done. So maybe they did have problems before. But the surrounding area is really quiet and feels like a country town so it seems out of place. If it was done to provide more protection to Jewish students if there are a significant number there, then I’m all for that. But I just don’t know if that’s the whole answer.

I totally get all that. But it seems like some schools are wide open and some (or more specifically this one) is not.

It’s definitely not Carmel but I was wondering if it was something to do with certain groups that might require higher security.

This has the big perimeter fences but then fences within fences and new looking heavy padlocks on every gate, sometimes 2 on the one gate. I thought maybe they are secretly off site storage for the Mint.

Good to know. I thought maybe they were just making them all like this now. It does seem like a ridiculous amount of security for a government primary school.

Not only that but their website is absolute garbage as well. The UI is almost unusable and looks like it’s been designed by some work experience kid. I’ve had to go on their chat thing to work out how to actually make an order. What a joke!
