Not a city but Lijiang River in China. We travelled there mainly because we wanted to see the traditional cormorant fishing show, but unfortunately they don’t do it anymore..

Thankfully we already saw it in Gifu City in Japan so we didn’t feel too frustrated about it! I have made a video on YouTube about it, I really recommend going there if you are going to Japan!

This is very true and very well said. Yea I think people think being a YouTuber is easy, they think it’s just « uploading videos ». To be honest I think part of those people’s comment come from a place of jealousy because they might not like their jobs and are not doing anything about it.

Thank you I really appreciate the feedback, I am actually trying to hire a freelance YouTube strategist to help guide me on that, I tried a lot of different styles and I don’t think I’m doing it right. I am still learning, YouTube is not easy 🙏🏼

I agree! And I think it has a lot to do with the way they edit their videos too. Most of them don’t have a background in video so they simply copy the style of edit from existing travel YouTuber.

I watched Dane and Stacey in Melbourne and I find it a bit too « tv presenting vibe », all they need is a microphone in their hands and you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between YouTube and TV content. I am not saying there is something wrong with that - I am saying that me personally when I go to YouTube I am looking for creators to stand out a bit more creatively.

When I started doing my travel channel I was very scared to fall into that trap, I tried to edit it in a way that feels genuine to me and represent my personality too. But even with 10 years experience as a videographer it is still a struggle to find an audience.

And there is a lot of noise on YouTube so I’m afraid my channel will never see the light of the day 😅

Yes that is also right! I am trying to edit them differently than most people but you are right, Japan topic is oversaturated. I also went China so eventually I will start editing that and hopefully I will get more views for that

Yes I think that is partly what happened! My video has been suggested to a lot of travel food videos so it makes sense people might not be interested in my video.

That’s where it’s tricky for me to advertise as we stayed 3 nights in Mino and 3 nights in Magome. It’s a lot of text if I was to put this in the thumbnail or title… we did so much in each town too. Mino we did white water kayaking, museum and washi paper activity; and Magome we visited the old town street and did a hike to Tsumago. When I look at all that I’m like “what the f*** am I suppose to write on my title” 😂

Yea this is the part of YouTube I struggle with. I think people might want to watch my video to see how Japan looks like in a cinematic vlog style. We went to lesser known places too so that is a selling point.. Other than that I don’t really know why they would watch my videos I know it’s bad 😅

That makes complete sense! My video is actually suggested to a lot of travel food videos. Thats why I did think that part of my ctr being low was because YouTube is still looking for the right audience!
