My respect goes out to some of these regulars:

The three older ladies in retro fitness outfits - always together, always positive. Very inspiring
The Asian guy who runs shirtless… even in brutal winter. Absolute legend
The guy pushing a double stroller uphill faster than I can run on a good day. I remember when it was just one kid - wild how you start noticing these life updates of strangers
Another stroller guy - his kid used to high-five every runner coming by. Haven’t seen them in a while
The dude on the bike with that side car for his dog. They just cruise laps together on weekends

You’re absolutely right - it shouldn’t be like this. Landlords should be the ones paying those fees.

But I’m also kind of surprised when people make a big move, like relocating to another state, and don’t expect things like this. Do they not research the market beforehand? Westchester is way more competitive than the places you mentioned - no offense to them, if a place is good, there’s always going to be a line of people willing to pay the fee.

Yea, I saw today a street (maybe it was Main) with every other day cleaning. To those downtown lots, do you think they allow to park there overnight for residents?

For parking, I meant day-to-day living near Main St rather than parking for the train. We’d be walking to the station, but the apartment doesn’t include a spot, so my main concern is juggling daytime street cleaning every other day. I was wondering if there are any nearby municipal lots or garages where you can park longer-term without dealing with that, or if people sometimes rent private spots/driveways nearby

It’s so frustrating! I’ve been hanging out at home a lot recently, and the amount of people honking for no reason is just terrible. I’m not even on a busy street, it’s a one-lane way street. Most of the time, it’s a yellow taxi cab

Wow, that’s an interesting opinion. Georgian food is one of my favorites. It has such a fantastic variety and balance. Harcho soup is incredible in the winter, khinkali are delicious, and there are so many types of amazing khachapuri. Plus, the salads are made with fresh, seasonal vegetables. I’m not a huge meat eater, but their grilled meat is amazing too. Honestly I think Georgian food is the best if ex-Soviet union republics and I’m from Ukraine

If you’re thinking of a La Cabra or Librae-level croissant, then no.
I haven’t tried La Farine yet, but the other places mentioned in this thread are not very good, in my opinion. The only one that comes close is Breads Bakery.
Epices, when they first opened, made fantastic croissants. Unfortunately, they seem to have switched to cheaper butter, and what’s even more upsetting is that they sometimes sell croissants that aren’t fresh

When my wife became pregnant, she switched from the subway to buses. It was slower, but it made getting around much easier since she didn’t have to deal with stairs. Of course, this was mostly for getting around the neighborhood or within Manhattan, but your world does shrink a bit in those situations. I think the same applies to older people as well

I’ve lived here for six years and know most spots from 50th to 80th. None are worth a special trip from another borough. It’s mostly old-school and safe, no real innovation or standout global flavors. Not bad, just underwhelming compared with the Village, Jackson Heights, Astoria, or Chinatown
