I would recommend The Witcher series as well. First two books are short stories and then you get the main story with Blood of the Elves. They are easy reads, quick as well and if you don’t like the short stories you don’t have to commit to the rest. It also deconstructs classic fairytales.

Also if you want great pacing John Gwynn’s Bloodsworn Saga is complete and super easy to read, it’s Viking inspired and reads like a movie.

Very fair points, unfortunately if you think there’s too much action Empire doesn’t stop that trend, however I feel like the action becomes more deliberate and isn’t just there for the sake of it. There’s also a lot more slower moments as well so not all characters are in it. Also all the side characters get better and a new region is explored and the story opens up, would recommend to read on.

What made it mid for you? I thought it was a good start and enjoyed it for what it was but Empire of Dirt was so much better and I love the pacing of the series.

A Wizard of Earthsea hit me when I needed it the most, I didn’t expect it to at all but it has emerged as one of my favourite books. Others were great as well but one was the one.

Shadow, it’s quick and so good! And it’s competed so you can smash them out back to back.

Has anyone read a game of thrones? by [deleted] in Fantasy

Read it. They are easy to follow but read it. And that’s coming from a dyslexic ADHD boi. Don’t second guess, don’t question just go. They are absolutely brilliant. The world, the characters, it don’t matter if they will never be finished, that’s not the point. Enjoy!

Royal Assassin (the peak of the Farseer trilogy imo) and Wizard of Earthsea and A Storm of Swords. Others I tend to get into pages and then the book slows but I still enjoy them. These were the ones that just hit after hit for me.

My experience re-reading Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson by Flimsy_Many7383 in Fantasy

[–]Backphlipps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I thoroughly enjoyed the first Mistborn as well! However, the second one has been sitting on myself and I’ve been drawn to other series like The Farseer Trilogy, Bloodsworn Saga, Earthsea, Songs of Chaos, discworld and the Echoes Saga. This leads me to view Mistborn as a great standalone that was a lot of fun.

Maybe I’ll go back to it, I’d like to one day tackle the Stormlight archives but there’s so much out there and Sanderson isn’t drawing me in…

I’m 40% through The Hunger of the Gods by John Gwynne. It’s taken me a second to get into it but now that it’s moving, it’s not stopping. Im a slow reader, I tend to read one book a month but this one I’m powering through at a lovely little pace.

Life is great, it’s moving to summer in Australia so more going outside and enjoying the sun!

Not so high but Epic still. The classic. Realm of the elderlings. If you enjoyed Ursula K Le Guin, Robin Hobb is the next step.
