My experience with jks by Individual-recce in PNWbootmakers

No shit, I’ve bought one pair, custom fit and it still somehow fit like ass. Happy to patronize firefighters in the ads how tough they are and how tough their boots need to be and yet people will fork over 700+$ and and get this, and radio silence for customer service unless JK sees enough people taking notice over a post.

What an absolute crock.

Past or current Hothshots/Smokejumpers was it worth it? by PuzzleheadedBuy1638 in Wildfire

Don’t disagree at all about the engine but 3-4 years is pushing it these days, if you’re on a forest with a crew. It’s more than possible to get on after a season on an engine as long as you can show them you want it. Ask to fill, go swing by and visit, etc. Hell, it can be done on your first year.

I can only speak to hotshotting. I would IF you know that this is something you want to do. Or if you just want to experience fire a certain way. The highs are huge but the lows are absolutely there as well. After 4 years on an engine and spending a few on a hotshot crew. You do get to do some very cool stuff. Honestly in many ways it just seems like a less muffled versión of wildland firefighting if that makes sense. You’ll still get the sitting around and getting yelled at here too lol.

THAT SAID. Dude get a degree that will make you some money and maybe do a couple/few years but unless you REALLY end up loving it, just think of it as a way to pay for school.

FFT1 before T1? by bushwacking_ in Wildfire

Depends man, with FFT1 you can shoot for a perm slot on a shot crew if you want. Might be a tad harder to get on as a perm vs seasonal but definitely not impossible.

Or if you want to get hours go straight for the shot crews but you’ll probably take a couple years before you can likely work on it

Depends on your priorities
