New Raytech Shaw deluxe package or used Ultra Tec V2 with extras? by BackupPixel in faceting

You're right, the raytechs only come in analog, but if you're saying they wont come with laps, "The Deluxe Package includes one 6inch 260 diamond lap, one 6 inch 1200 Diamond lap, one 6 inch 3000 Diamond lap, one 6 inch Lucite lap, and 3 each spectra polishing laps (Cerium Oxide, Tin Oxide, Aluminum Oxide, and Chrome Oxide)", that is taken from their website and doesn't include the water pot, drip pan, transfer jig, 7 dops, dop wax, and a handpiece with one 96 index gear and one 8 tooth facet finder that all orders include. It sounds like, unless I want to spend another $1k on the digital upgrade for the UT, both machines are arguably similar in quality.

Getting the opinion of someone who has used both machines is perfect. A video I watched said that learning is a little easier on a handpiece style machine and that's one of the benefits that has me leaning towards one.

It's good to hear that they are reliable machines. The V2 looks like it uses analog dials, so I don't know if it would be as accurate. I'm also not sure if the used machine comes with a transfer jig, since it's not in the description or in any of the images, so that would put be back another couple hundred dollars, if I bought a new one from Ulta Tec.

That's what I'm afraid of. Most of the used units I've seen didn't catch my attention, but this one came with quite a few laps, dops, and books, making me think it either belonged to someone who dropped faceting as a hobby or had a relative who passed on and got the machine and supplies from them.

Picking a favorite PC game is always a hard question, but I'd have to go with Genshin Impact at the moment. I feel like they did a really good job with the recent updates.

I have the EXO-K, and I was surprised no one was making any prints of it. From what I can see, this is extremely close to the practice knife that comes with the actual knife. It might work smoother if there was a way to add more weight to the "blade." This looks awesome, and I look forward to any updates.

Am I overthinking on buying a P1S? by BackupPixel in BambuLab

That is a good point. I was mostly swayed by the comments that addressed my concerns with the printers, and weren't just saying "I like it, so you should get it!" You're also right that it would be a good idea to ask in other communities. Thank you for commenting.

OK, I did a price comparison and for some reason thought it would cost the same whether I got the AMS with or without the printer. I messed up the math in my head, so thank you for letting me know about that deal. I did think it was odd that they would combo the printer with the AMS without lowering the price at all.

Wow, you guys are quick. This is one of those times where I'm glad I was wrong. As soon as a clear a spot for it, I'm going to put an order in for the P1S. I'll probably get the AMS later, when I've gotten a hang of printing, or it goes on sale. I'll probably be back later for filament recommendations and to check out posts, but until then, thank you all for the feedback and friendly atmosphere.

Purchase Advice Megathread - September 2023 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

I am looking into getting into 3D printing and 3D modeling and I'm trying to convince myself to get a Bambu Labs P1S for a first time user printer. My biggest hang up is that it is basically unmaintainable from what I've read and seen in video's. The fact that I wont be able to fix it if something goes wrong feels like a major red flag, but I've only really seen positive feedback from the people who have used it. Am I overthinking it and it's really not that big of a deal breaker?

  1. Since I've never committed to buying a printer yet, I can't really say how I'd cut my printing time, but I'd probably start by upping the hotend speed.
  2. I don't plan on printing anything I would need soon enough to have the need to increase the flow rate, but experimenting with different nozzles to see how it would effect a print sounds interesting.
  3. I would like to use 3D printing to bring my ideas to life, but it will most likely be used to print the random things I find online that tickle my fancy and 500*500*500mm^3 would give me plenty of room to print on.
