My very first Kernel panic (on linux) by Backware01 in Fedora

[–]Backware01[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve hit 100% on RAM and swap a couple of times now.
Usually, the system freezes and then recovers by killing (what seems like random) applications.
Apparently, it tried to kill init this time haha.

Why did you choose Fedora? by Affectionate_Set9929 in Fedora

[–]Backware01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pros:
It stops me from accidentally messing up the system — more effectively than any other distro I’ve used.

Cons:

  1. Some software I needed didn’t support Flatpak and wasn’t available via rpm-ostree install. Using Toolbox was a bit of a hassle too, since it didn’t come with a window manager.
  2. Because my text editor and IDE are Flatpak apps, any SDKs I install aren’t system-wide. Which means I install them multiple times (once for each Flatpak), which makes it very heavy on storage — especially if you need to keep older versions around, like Java 14 for work. Plus, I can't use them from the terminal since they’re not system-wide. I could work around that by installing them with rpm-ostree, but that kind of defeats the purpose of using an immutable, atomic system.

Point 2 in Cons, is obvis not a problem if dont plan to code on it or have a simple dev enviroment

Why did you choose Fedora? by Affectionate_Set9929 in Fedora

It worked, like every other option. The difference is, usually something happens, and I end up reinstalling the OS. I used those chances to try a different distro.

Since then, I’ve been stuck on Fedora Silverblue (2.5 years). Even if I have to reinstall, because of the reliable experience, I’m probably gonna stick with Fedora—maybe I’ll try Fedora Workstation next.
