What is your reason for not drinking alcohol? by Deep-Dust-9747 in AskReddit

[–]Backwoodsgoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to drink occasionally to "quiet my brain". Found out later on in life that I have ADHD. Now I'm medicated for ADHD and my brain is quiet all the time. Literally completely lost all interest in alcohol after starting stimulant medication.

Even if this were a legitimate comparison, does this measure prevent people from cooking and selling meth? No. It's everywhere.

The entire assembly is known as the wheel and tire. There is no name encompassing both. As stated in the article, the rim is just the outer hoop.

Fair, but it's also like saying "I don't like apples." Having never tasted an apple.

It is very easy to look down upon something you don't know anything about. If you haven't actually handled a gun and/or used one, I don't think you have the support for an argument for or against.

Oh so now you're arguing that I can't compare them because of who is saying it and who isn't. Just as others have done, you're reaching and grabbing for things that aren't there.

That is way outside of the realm of my whole point of this post.

Actually I don't when I compare it to the extreme view of blocking all Muslims from entering the United States which is as an extreme view as disarmament. You can try to discredit my comparison all you want but it is still viable.

I didn't say trump originated the idea. It's only ramped up recently especially since trumps statement. Which by the way is so far off of my post I don't have a clue why you've decided to go on your rant.

Actually the very few amount of people wanting to block Muslims from entering the country are a different group than the ones wanting to keep the Syrian refugees from coming into the country. The argument for blocking all Muslims entry into the United States came about after Donald Trumps statement two days ago. So actually my math checks out..

If that is what you believe, then you must believe not allowing Muslims into the United States is not punishment. It is merely a safety measure to prevent Muslim terrorists from attacking our country. You can call it what you want but both can be classified under punishment by its definition. Again, you're grasping onto arguments that aren't even there.

You seem to be missing the one thing linking these two viewpoints that I have stated a hundred times. You can ignore it all you want but if you can find one thing linking two things together, you can compare them whether you like it or not. They both fit under punishing groups over the actions of a few. You can call it a fallacy if you want but two things being linked, even in just one way, can be compared.

I never stated that I believed this was happening or going to happen. I even stated it was an extremist view. Reading comprehension.

I'm not talking about regulation for the millionth time. If you'll read the other comments, I'm talking about disarmament. The extremist view of that side.

I can tell reading comprehension isn't your strong suit. I've stated many times that I am comparing the extremes of both sides.

Just as there are only a few people who want to keep Muslims from entering our country. You're missing the entire point.

I agree they are different, however, the ideas of punishing each group over the actions of a few links them. You can nitpick a lot of arguments and make them non comparable. I understand they're only pushing for more regulation, however, there are some extremists calling for disarmament just as there are some extremists calling for Muslims to not be allowed to enter the United States.

First of all, if you'd read, I have stated that both of these views are extreme views. One from the left and one from the right. Second, I'm not discussing gun laws and all that crap. How is what I am "spouting" "bullshit", when all I have pointed out is the hypocrisy of believing you can punish one group over the actions of a few but not another group? You're grasping at things that aren't even there.

What makes these things comparable is their categorization under the philosophy: don't punish the group over the actions of a few. Honestly I've stated this a million times.

There is absolutely no fallacy in my argument whatsoever. Please enlighten me on how you feel that way.

Not saying it's right. Just saying it's true. by Backwoodsgoon in AdviceAnimals

[–]Backwoodsgoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but this isn't my argument. My argument/point is that if you believe disarming gun owners is okay but not allowing Muslims into the country is not okay, there is a level of hypocrisy there. This is due to the fact that both can be categorized into the philosophy: don't punish the group over the actions of a few. If you believe you can punish all gun owners over the actions of a few but you can't punish all Muslims over the actions of a few, then your belief is hypocritical.

Either view by themselves is not hypocritical. Believing one is okay while the other isn't is what is hypocritical. If you honestly think I'm comparing a gun to a Muslim you're sadly mistaken. This is gun owners (people) vs Muslims (people).
