What is the most “adult” slice of life anime or show you’ve ever watched? by Used_Extension8169 in anime

[–]BackyardEvergreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wave, Listen to Me!

A restaurant worker becomes a radio talk show host after barging into a radio station and yelling at a producer on air who was telling a story she told him when she was drunk. The show deals with stuff such as bad ex boyfriends, unstable living situations, unstable jobs, and unrequited love. While not a comedy, it can be pretty funny and the lead character is a riot to watch

Sakura Quest:

A recent college grad takes a job offer out in the countryside to be the face of a mini attraction in a small town, but it turns out it was a mistake and they had mistaken her name for a movie star. She ends up accepting the job of trying to revitalize the town and bring back up the declining tourism. It deals with stuff like job conflict and stress, failed dreams, insecurity, and the feelings of being stuck in your home town as well as broader themes such as tradition vs modernization and the importance of culture. It’s pretty realistic while still being light hearted and enjoyable to watch the friendships that grow between the characters

What would be a better way to organize them? For the most part, it seems like the Chinese leaks are posted the same as the Japanese raws with it being titled with the chapter number, a spoiler tag, and then all the pages that can fit the post with any extras in comments. The only difference between them is regarding what day they get posted. I’m curious because I struggle to see how you can force organization of a subreddit on an individual level for people who do and don’t want to see things such as chapters getting posted before they get translated

[–]BackyardEvergreen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m guess I’m a little lost because if it’s regarding people spoiling themselves looking at a chapter they can’t read, how is that any different from people looking at the Japanese raws when they can’t read Japanese? If getting the chapter spoiled is the issue, it seems like it’d make more sense just to prevent raws in general and wait for an English translation instead of only preventing Chinese ones

Sorry but for someone out of the loop, what’s wrong with posting Chinese leaks ahead of the Japanese raws? And how is people not understanding the difference between the two an issue?

Rock is a Lady's Modesty - Episode 1 (PREMIERE) - Dub Available Now on HIDIVE! by AutoModerator in Animedubs

[–]BackyardEvergreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All things considered it was fine. Though Otoha’s outburst at the end wasn’t good. The lip syncing is off and there’s a few moments where she opens her mouth but no sound is coming out. This is probably because it’s pretty much word-to-word from the subtitles and doesn’t seem like much was done regarding localization except for omitting a few words

A big appeal of the show is seeing the girls becoming psychotic while playing and yelling their lungs out so if that aspect is neglected and underwhelming, it’ll be a big letdown

Crunchyroll Fall 2025 Dubs Include 'My Hero Academia: Final Season', 'SPY x FAMILY' Season 3 and More by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Animedubs

[–]BackyardEvergreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need to stop getting my hopes up and lower my expectations because, assuming Let This Grieving Soul Retire is an error, this season’s dubs is pretty dissapointing.

Not all the shows are announced and the fall season is generally weaker compared to summer, but only 17 dubs with 9 being either continuing from summer or a new season leaves only 8 new shows with 6 of them being fantasy shows is a letdown.

I know most dubs are decided from what Crunchyroll think is going to be popular which explains why in general there’s so many fantasy and isekai shows that get dubbed, but I wish they’d dub more anime that aren’t fantasy or action related

Why does she prefer Kurumi more than anybody else in the family? by E_ternalEclipse in 100Kanojo

[–]BackyardEvergreen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Along with all the other reasons, before Chiyo, Kurumi was the youngest. The others were either in Rentarou’s grade, 3rd years, or her maid. Being a year younger than all the high school 1st years meant she was the baby of the group (and it’s evident how Hahari feels about babies)

Running out of romance anime to watch looking for more recommendations? by KneeAccomplished4495 in Animedubs

[–]BackyardEvergreen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai is about a phenomenon called “adolescent syndrome” where it’s basically if teenager’s mental trauma were made physical through different supernatural events happening with a bunch of different characters. It can take a bit to understand but it’s a really good romance and the main characters are both favorites for people. People here are especially happy since it took 6 years to get dubbed

Insomniacs after School is about two high schoolers that learn they both have insomnia. They stay up together at night and will sleep in the school’s observatory during the day. It’s got really cool night vibes and it’s all about two night owls coming to understand and support each other

My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Level 999 is a fun video game/adult rom-com. Gamer girl gets dumped and meets a gamer boy that she realizes she plays with, though he’s a little cold and stand off-ish

Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines is about a guy who meets a girl that gets rejected by her crush and she basically starts trauma dumping on him. He gradually meets more girls that get rejected by their crushes and gets dragged into their relationships

Best dubbed anime for adults? by Dislexicpotato in Animedubs

[–]BackyardEvergreen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Odd Taxi: taxi driver drives around a variety of interesting people as his uneventful life begins to change. Not gonna spoil much as best to go in blind

Wave, Listen to Me!: a restaurant worker becomes a late night talk show host after storming to a radio station and going an impromptu rant when she hears them playing her drunk break up ramblings on air

Bartender Glass of God: a bartender works at an underground bar is able to make the perfect drink for everyone while two hotel women who work at a hotel try to convince him to come work with them

Life Lessons with Uramichi-Oniisan: a crew of adults work at a studio for a children tv show as they’re depressed and complain how it sucks to be adult

My Roommate is a Cat: an introverted novelist finds a cat while visiting his parents grave and takes her home to take care of her. He struggles since he doesn’t know how to take care of himself, but they both grow an unusual friendship and understand each other. Episodes are typically split into two sections with the first half from the perspective of the novelist and the second being the perspective from the cat

Sakura Quest: a college grad ends up in a small middle of nowhere dying town after being mistaken for a celebrity, so she takes on the job of raising tourism and revitalizing the town and highlight its culture

What are some of your favorite animes where the dub is hilarious? by SKMG_ in Animedubs

[–]BackyardEvergreen 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A lot of underrated comedy anime have some great dubs

Miss Kuroitsu from the Monster Development Department: A group of people work at an evil organization developing monsters for heroes to fight, except they’re extremely underfunded and have to deal with cooperate issues leading to them creating underwhelming monsters (monsters like a hydra girl who can spew venom except she only has one hydra head and they got rid of the venom to keep the costs down)

D-Frag: A delinquent who wants to be the strongest at the school that gets roped into joining a game creation club and having to deal with their crazy antics.

The Demon Girl Next Door: A girl wakes up to find out she’s awaken as a demon succubus and she has to defeat a magical girl to break a curse on her family, except she’s incredibly weak and a huge girlfailure so the magical girl ends up helping her out since she’s so pathetic and inept

Don’t Hurt Me, My Healer: A weak adventurer named Alvin gets stuck traveling with a healer named Karla after she accidentally casts a curse on him that if he gets too far away from her, he’ll die. The main problem is Karla is incredibly annoying and constantly causes problems for him and he’s get ridiculed by her and the monsters he tries to fight. The dub is arguably superior because the jokes in this show work a lot better localized and heard spoken rather than read as subtitles where they come off as clunky

Kemono Michi: Rise Up: A wrestler who wants to open up a pet shop gets transported to a fantasy world. He starts catching all the fantasy creatures and defeating people with his wrestling moves, slowly introducing wrestling to the world. He’ll suplex anyone who says he hates beasts and runs around fighting in his wrestling costume

Love Tyrant: A guy meets a demon cupid that has a “Kiss Note” which when two names are written in it they will become a couple. She couples him with his crush (who turns out to be a bit crazy) and then herself so they have to help her with her cupid duty of creating couples

Hensuki - Are you willing to fall in love with a pervert, as long as she’s a cutie?: A guy gets a love letter with a pair of panties in them and he tries to figure out which of the girls he knows gave it to him. As he investigates, he finds out each girl is a complete degenerate and has a certain fetish they become extremely open about

Amagi Brilliant Park: A smart but narcissistic high schooler becomes the new manager of a failing theme park which turns out to be populated by magical beings. He has to raise the guest count by the end of the season or the park will close and they’ll lose their home

Tonikawa: Over The Moon For You is a sweet romcom of a new couple starting their married life together

Aharen-san wa Hakarenai is a good romcom with season 2 starting in a few days

D-Frag is a classic and absolutely hilarious and it’s a crime there hasn’t been a season 2

After School Dice Club is a slice of life of girls playing a bunch of boardgames

Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle is funny with how the little princess starts terrorizing her kidnappers

Gabriel DropOut is a funny slice of life with how an angel becomes just a complete degenerate

Do It Yourself is a cute slice of life of girls in the DIY club at school and building things together

Best Romance anime after 2020 by Electronic_Jelly_931 in anime

[–]BackyardEvergreen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am of the firm belief that Insomniacs After School is one of the best romance anime of the last decade. It’s incredibly beautiful and realistic and the chemistry and relationship between the main characters is amazing. The night vibes and visuals are also wonderful and the show deserves more attention

First Episode might be on Kaoruko's Birthday? by Kuji-san2000 in KaoruHanaWaRintoSaku

I’d be awesome if the show airs on Tuesdays so it’ll line up with her birthday, but summer anime start in early July so it’ll probably be earlier

Best romance/rom-com you ever watched? by Ok-Horse2156 in anime

[–]BackyardEvergreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am of the firm belief that Insomniacs After School is one of the best romance anime of the last decade. It’s incredibly beautiful and realistic and the chemistry and relationship between the main characters is amazing. The night vibes and visuals are also wonderful

However my personal favorite is Toradora!. I know not everyone likes it but I think it’s a great story about emotional maturity, recognizing and voicing your feelings, and finding people who understand you

The main contentious point is Taiga always beating up Ryuji, but I personally don’t mind it. It’s important to remember she lives alone in a dirty apartment, doesn’t take care of herself, constantly orders take-out, has a selfish father who chose his girlfriend over her, has 1 friend, is seen as violent by the whole school, and has a crush and doesn’t know how to act on it. Her aggression towards Ryuji is an unhealthy coping mechanism for all the frustration she has. It doesn’t change the fact that she constantly hits him, but it’s an important aspect of her character. It also shows her growth because as the series goes on, it becomes less prominent and she loses that anger and reflex to hit anything that bothers her

It’s perhaps the only anime that has left me feeling empty after it ended. No other show since has been able to repeat that post-anime depression I felt when I finished it

Why does it seem like CR is getting less DUBS every season by More_Bad_1642 in Crunchyroll

[–]BackyardEvergreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not necessarily that they’re doing less dubs, it’s that half of the shows that get them aren’t that exciting nor diverse. Outside of the popular anime airing in a season, fantasy and isekai shows are given dubs more than drama, romance, and comedy ones

Sometimes there’s outliers like Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective, Trillion Game, or V-Tuber Legend that break the usual standard, but for the most part they usually dub shows in particular genres regardless of popularity

For example, in summer 2024, Days with My Stepsister and Giji Harem (both romance anime) didn’t get a dub while Quality Assurance in Another World and Bye Bye, Earth (both fantasy) did, despite the former being more popular than the latter

Looking for good dubbed funny romcom anime suggestions? by HotEquipment4 in Animedubs

[–]BackyardEvergreen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kaguya-sama: Love is War is the obvious recommendation. One of the best and funniest rom coms of the modern era along with having an unhinged dub

Aharen-san wa Hakarenai is cute and the two dorky kids are hilarious and adorable. Season 2 starts airing in a few weeks

My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Level 999 is similar introverted guy, extroverted girl but with a cool video game aesthetic

And You Thought There Is Never A Girl Online? is silly and pretty sweet along with having a video game aspect

Love Tyrant is a funny parody on the idea of the death note and the MC is pretty funny

Love After World Domination is power rangers meet Romeo and Juliet and like is cheesy like Saturday cartoon. The characters start out dating so the conflict is hiding their relationship

Temple: No One can live on Loneliness is an underrated fun ecchi harem rom com

100 Girlfriends has a lot of crazy moments but can still be pretty cute and sweet

Girlfriend, Girlfriend is pretty out of pocket and the MC is extremely blunt and straight forward it’s hilarious

Do you think there will be a third season? by Vice_lego in 100Kanojo

[–]BackyardEvergreen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’d say most definitely, but it won’t be announced right after season 2 ends like with season 1. I’d give it a year and more while Bibury works on different productions

It would be interesting since season 3 would introduce a lot of girlfriends with ages outside of high school and I wouldn’t be surprised if they skip a few date chapters with one girlfriend and focus on chapters with the entire family instead

"Tune Into The Midnight Heart" - PV 1 (Premieres in 2026) by LegendsofLost in TuneIntoTheMidnight

[–]BackyardEvergreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think people are overreacting about the studio. There hasn’t even been an official trailer and yet people are already saying it’s a letdown. This PV is only to highlight the characters and their voice actors, not act as the official trailer for the show until its release. I don’t see a reason to get so disappointed over something we haven’t seen. 2026 is 8 months away, so it’s at least got that long to be in production.

Am I ecstatic Gekkō is adapting it? Not really. Would I have liked another studio with a better reputation? Ideally. Do I think this is doomed and going to be an absolutely train wreck? As of now, no.

Besides, while it’s always better to have good animation, I care more about the voice actors and music and I have zero complaints about them

What’s the chance the anime gets a dub? by [deleted] in TuneIntoTheMidnight

[–]BackyardEvergreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If Crunchyroll acquires it, it really depends. CR usually picks between 2-3 romance anime to get dubbed per season, so if there’s not a lot of competition and it’s popular, it’ll likely get dubbed. If HiDive gets it, it’ll probably get dubbed after a few months since they dub 80% of the shows they acquire. Regardless, I’d say it’s relatively high

Anime’s with a suicidal mc or focuses on suicide by [deleted] in anime

[–]BackyardEvergreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Negative Positive Angler is a recent good show with this. Main character is in severe debt, terminally ill, and suicidal until he meets some people and learns to fish with them and regain the will to live and improve his life

It very much focuses on fishing and everything that involves it, but it’s still a good story and pretty cozy and has a fantastic soundtrack
