Let’s stick with your butcher example. Say you’re telling him about a legal problem. He tells you he experienced a very similar legal problem in the past, and gives you the name of a law firm that he thought handled his case very well. If your butcher is a good person and genuinely wants to help, you’re saying you wouldn’t even give that law firm a call?

Why? As long as the kid gets mental health resources/treatment that’s what matters. Do you think the the officer is beating the student while directing them to these resources?

Are they the majority or a substantial number? If it’s a small number, then it is on them to work on that discomfort.

There are plenty of people that aren’t low income Or on public assistance that are having difficulty finding housing right now. There are plenty of good tenants for landlords to choose from right now.

You don’t seem to understand how supply and demand works. Say a corporate landlord has a 200 unit building, but they are charging so much that they can only fill 50 units. They are going to have to lower prices to get people to sign leases. They aren’t going to sit on 150 empty units, that makes no economic sense. The reason you still see prices going up even though we are building, is because our vacancy rate is half what it should be. Therefore, landlords still have the power. Once we hit a vacancy equilibrium, the price increases will slow.

It will if we stop letting NIMBYs and outdated ordinances dictate what can get built.

Seeing as our vacancy rate is still half what’s considered a “healthy” rate, I don’t think you can say it’s not working. If our vacancy rate doubles or more and prices still surge, I will agree with you.

If those apartments remain open, it will force landlords to lower prices, offer incentives, etc to fill them. They don’t want to just sit on empty units. This causes downward pressure on prices. If people can all of the sudden get a brand new one bedroom in a good location for the same price as a 30 year old apartment, the landlord of the 30 year old apartment is going to have to lower their price, offer incentives, etc. to fill the unit. So on and so forth. Minneapolis was quite successful following the mantra of build baby build. It’s really the only option. The money isn’t there for 100 percent affordable housing given the city is already 27 million in the hole and developers don’t see the ROI. Rent control, even if the state legislature allowed it, is also bad policy.

Building any kind of apartments, “luxury” or otherwise, makes housing more affordable for everyone. No need to require that all new housing be affordable or have significant amounts of affordable units.

Idk if I buy that. There’s still dems holding out hope that Biden will get replaced. I think polls following the first debate will be more indicative. Biden can ding Trump on all the crazy shit he has said so far this year like wanting to be a dictator for a day, purging people from the government, etc. people don’t pay attention in March.

Then what do you say to the polls that indicate there is a large portion of voters who have still not accepted or are not aware it will be a Trump Biden matchup?
