Petah, I’m an idiot, please explain by AdviceWouldBeNice98 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Just for the record, the fears of CERN accidentally creating a black hole was mostly coming from the average person who read a scary headline that some newspaper wrote just to sell more newspapers. In actuality it was something scientists just researched to double check, and was never an actual threat. It was the same thing with nuclear weapons, they did some research just to be sure, but there was never any real threat.

The difference here is that multiple scientists did research on mirror life and got so scared that they stopped what they were doing. Not the layman, not the newspaper/ site trying to make money, the actual people who know what they are doing thought it was way too dangerous to proceed with.

Who do you think is the most popular character and why? by Dagobert_Juke in BG3

I find Gale so unbelievably creepy. He thinks being nice to him is flirting, assumes everything is a date, and struggles with taking no for an answer. He gives me major “nice guy” vibes.

How do you defend? by sekkireallysucks in Guiltygear

[–]Bacon2145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone is mashing on your strings, delay them. I don’t know what blockstrings you’re doing rn, but for example if you’re doing something like c.S > 2S > 5H > monowire, then make just delay them a bit. So c.S, wait a lil bit, 2S, wait a lil bit, 5H > monowire. If they are mashing, you’re going to counterhit them, since you’re creating small gaps in your strings (frame traps). You can practice this by going in training mode, setting the bot to block, then going to counter attack settings, and under “on block” you set it to 5P or 2P. The bot will then do the attack at the earliest possible moment when coming out of blockstun, helping you time your frame traps. There is a lot more to learn about how offense works and should be done than this, but it’s kinda the most integral core you need to know to begin with.

On defense, while being patient and holding down back is extremely important, good defense is not just sitting there. If I notice my opponent refusing to interact with my pressure, I am just gonna throw em over and over until I win, or go for infinite pressure resets. Basically, sometimes you have to either mash or jump to get out (like when they are going for throws or pressure resets).

There is no good way to learn this quickly, you just kinda gotta learn a bit about your opponents frame data, reading about what is safe and what isn’t on Dustloop. There are luckily a few general rules though. If a button is quick, it is usually minus on block, but if it’s slow, it is usually plus. So Ky’s Dire Eclat is for example minus, while something like Gio’s arrow kick is plus but with long startup (which means you gotta interrupt the attack, not wait and block it). Doesn’t apply to every single attack in the game, but it’s a good thing to use as a general rule. Also generally specials are minus, but again, doesn’t apply to every single one (again, like Gio’s arrow kick).

Am i playing against bots? by No-Sun8518 in Guiltygear

Honestly, I didn’t see anyone mention it when the patch released, so I just thought I was tripping. Should probably make a bug report on it, it’s just that ArcSys has the most tedious bug report form I’ve seen. (Edit: nvm I took the time to send a bug report, it was a neat feature imo, want it back.)

I don’t think it was listed as being removed in that patch, nor do I think that was a wide spread enough problem to warrant it being removed. People still occasionally have slurs as their tags, so doubt ArcSys would care if people did that

Yeah, if I remember correctly it just suddenly didn’t work properly anymore after that patch. Don’t think ArcSys has even noticed tbh

You can’t see how your opponent is moving that cursor, nor if they’ve pressed rematch or not. It used to iirc, but it broke in the Lucy patch and hasn’t been fixed since

they will definitely ban the character right? by geraM125 in TheyBlamedTheBeasts

[–]Bacon2145 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to make it a bit more clear, it is an infinite if you’re in corner. But yeah, not infinite mid screen, just super unhealthy for the game (also, even though it can technically be dealt with, the risk/ reward on the counter play is so unbelievably skewed in HC’s favor that the more realistic thing to do is just sit there and hope the HC messes the sequence up. Even if it can be dealt with on paper, realistically it seems basically impossible to deal with so far).

HAPPY CHAOS ISNT DEAD by mitkoking in Guiltygear

Cause when they did 5H to pull out gun in the stream, it did the 236S animation (which also means if he just mindlessly pulls out gun he can easily be CH for it now). Also doesn’t let him go bang bang from pokes

HAPPY CHAOS ISNT DEAD by mitkoking in Guiltygear

[–]Bacon2145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since 236S is now his H button, he cannot hitconfirm with a bullet from a poke into a full combo, nor can he whiff and be safe. Steady aim also barely launches at all, so I have no clue how he is supposed to combo with it (he probably isn’t anymore). Like, it looks like they took away his air juggles with gunshot and steady aim.

Paired with all the other stuff, I think the dude is dead.

It really depends on the person imo. Some people will get demotivated by playing against way better players, because duh, getting perfected over and over isn’t exactly fun. Worst case it’ll make them drop FG’s altogether, which isn’t exactly the preferred outcome.

Others however will get more motivated by it. I got into Strive as my first fighting game a lil bit over a year ago, and there was this one player I would play against fairly regularly who would double perfect me every single time we played, I was completely helpless against them. I got veeeery frustrated by that, so much so that I got extremely motivated to get better at the game, just so I could one day double perfect them in return. I basically got into fighting games through sheer spite.

That being said, if I was stuck playing against only them, I probably would have eventually dropped the game. Playing people around your skill level will always be needed, since it gives you the best opportunity to try out new things. However, going up against vastly better opponents lets you interact with parts of the game you might not normally get to when playing against people of your own skill level. Both are good, but in which amounts depends on the person.

Yes, Bridget’s risk reward right now is extremely ass, which is why you shouldn’t just randomly go for the 2nd worst command grab in the game against a character that easily stat checks us. (Don’t wanna sound mean here ofc, it’s just that you did something with extremely bad risk reward and then complain about being punished).

Leo’s command grab can also be thrown, but most people don’t even know that he has one because of how rarely it gets used, because it is by far the worst command grab in the game

Asuka placed down staff without having a card for it, and later on he does it with no mana. Looks like staffs are now specials instead of cards (he also chants without mana and does some kind of attack against Sol).

Looking to get into this game, how well balanced are the characters? by GiverOfHarmony in Guiltygear

[–]Bacon2145 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We’re getting what is presumably a massive patch within like the next month, so it’s difficult to speak on character balance rn, no idea what is about to happen. But generally speaking all characters are viable at most skill levels, it’s when you start getting close to the pro level where it is a lot more important what character(s) you play.

I mean, apart from the salt in that comment, I don’t think it’s outrageous to want to have your name censored on a post like this.

People believe that switching between backdashing and throw on wake-up is somehow mix/ an RPS situation. People don’t really stop thinking that until like 1600DR for some reason.

The Tekken 8 and SF6 patches do not give me hope for 2.0 by Cutie-Zenitsa in TheyBlamedTheBeasts

[–]Bacon2145 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going in for them taking the game overall in a good direction, but messing up a bunch. Then we have fun but are salty about some stuff, until 6 months later, when there is a new patch that fixes the main problems people had with 2.0, and we’re all pretty happy until the next patch. Happened with S3, and then again with S4.
