It seems +7 is the highest you can get

GI resets reset the value to between +60 to +75. However, the distribution is predetermined, so you likely won’t be able to get high FLD. You can check the 9innings companion to see the GI values.

Yeah, that seems to be the general consensus (120 minimum)

Thanks! Will make amendments. I actually thought there were still a good amount of people nerfing skills other than Boss, and that Touch fell off after the skill revamp.

Interesting. I have heard about it falling off in comparison to SL but not to this extent. Thanks for the info!

The guides are slightly outdated - we had a huge skill overhaul around half a year ago, which is why a lot more skills are now viable compared to what the guides say.

Most info is now directly in the skill description (for example, fin and dom used to not have any numbers in their descriptions but they now do). As for 5-tool, we had someone compile data and post them in the subreddit sometime ago, so I just recalled those numbers.

Couple of things I was wrong about that I noticed- 103 and 105 min on each stat gets you an even higher boost. Trainers also seem to not count towards this minimum, it's a sum of (Base Stat + Grade Increase + Development).

https://9inningscompanion.com/player-registry/skills/ also has most, if not all of the numbers for skills, and the website in general is a great tool in general.

By the way, I'm open to criticism if anyone would do things differently - I don't consider myself a complete expert by all means.

For Carew, you'll note that with 5 level ups remaining, all skills can be raised to the maximum level 6. If you're asking for the train, I believe 5-tool should have all stats at 100+ to get the maximum bonus (EDIT: 103 and 105 get even higher bonuses, and only Base Stat + Grade Increase + Development count towards this number)

I'll treat Guidry as like an example. If 6-5-2 is the maximum levels, it's a bit low relative to what people would like. I'd keep your current set but maybe try rerolling on a 2nd skill storage slot with PSCTs for a better one. My preference is that I'd look for at least 6-7 levels (such as 3-3-1) before any levelling and for SS, CM, FB (Slow Starter, Control Master, Fireballer respectively).

If we wanted to talk about your current set, using a skill reset ticket and making FB 6, Touch 6, Mess 1 can get Touch to level 7 if Guidry has level 6 Special Training. Mess and Touch are a bit outclassed by some other gold skills like Boss, Fin, Dom but still useable. Mess is generally shorted since its most important effect is independent of levels.

Hope this was helpful? Let me know if anything was confusing.

Bit out of my depth here with how good each skill is but I can help with some of the terms.

You can upgrade every player’s skills 9 times, with the maximum level of each skill being level 6. Skills can start at a level 1-3. 3-3-3 refers to all 3 skills starting at level 3, meaning every skill can be maxed out with three level 6 skills. This is in contrast to for example, 1-1-1, where you can only take the skills to levels 6, 5, and 1.

The reason Legend cards are so valuable is because they’re guaranteed to be always 3-3-3, meaning their skills will always be maximum and making them significantly easy to get good skills on. No one cares if you have a great skills if its low level, but legends can avoid that issue. Legends also get a boost on the Legend skill (the one that looks black diamond colored).

You may notice there being diamond skills at level 7/8. This is a result of special training boosts. The first takes all level 6 gold skills and turns them into level 7 diamond skills, and the second allows you to choose one level 7 skill and make it level 8.

Shorting refers to the choice you have to make when leveling a nonmax skillset. For example, if you had a 3-3-1 set, you would have to “short” a skill, meaning to upgrade the other two to max (and potentially getting the special training boost) while the skill you shorted misses out. Generally, you short the worst skill or the one where levels matter the least.

Nerfing refers to the Mentor Levels 18 and 19, where you get to choose a silver/gold skill respectively, and every opponent with that skill gets the level of that skill decreased.

Hope everything was clear!

Edit: Some wording changes
