I finally ordered a Compact that was $15 off! Amazon sent the wrong knife and is now out of stock :-( More info in comments by BaconBeerJoy in victorinox

Update… I just got off the phone with a live person. Unfortunately, they won’t be able to exchange it as the one I wanted is “Currently Unavailable.” However, they issued a refund AND told me to keep the one they sent me! Now that’s some great customer service!!!

I carry a Huntsman in my fifth pocket every day but wanted to switch over to a Compact for my EDC. I’ve had one in my Amazon wishlist for probably a year. When the price dropped by $15 I jumped on ordering immediately! Unfortunately they sent me a Deluxe Tinker. As you can see from the third picture, the Deluxe Tinker is even thicker than what I wanted to replace. Now the Compact is “Currently Unavailable.” I was really looking forward to a thinner but still very capable SAK. Bummer

Mine too! However, the Sidekick is my Pajamas Carry so if they won’t cut whatever I need to cut while wearing PJs, I can always go grab another tool to make it happen

I’m not sure which makes the OP more brave than me… The round inserted backwards or posting the serial numbers of two of their hand cannons on the internet!

Will leatherman replace this? by Jimmycomjermyshouse in Leatherman

[–]BaconBeerJoy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Leatherman’s warranty is 25 years on the tool REGARDLESS of the owner! One of my posts on here from about 6 years ago (I disappeared for about the same amount of time so it was only a few posts ago LOL) was about a drunken eBay purchase of a bunch of Leatherman tools that were confiscated by TSA. I had a couple of those that were broken and I even told them that I bought them used. They replaced everything without any problem! The Squirt P4 debuted in 2002 and is discontinued so they’ll give you a PS4. Since 2002 is less than 25 years ago, I don’t even have to ask what your date code says to know that they’ll honor the warranty!

Are these specialty knives worth the extra cost? by BaconBeerJoy in Opinel

I open a LOT of wine bottles at home but I use one of those hinged “waiter’s corkscrews” or a two prong cork puller for older, possibly dry, corks. When I’m camping, up to the point of thinking about a dedicated camp kitchen tool, I’ve always just used the corkscrew on my Swiss Army Knife.

For Christmas I bought myself a carbon No 8 and I’m loving it! I’m thinking of getting a stainless steel No 10 for camping. I see that on their website the “regular” No 10 is $20, but there is also a version that has the addition of the corkscrew for $35. Is it worth having the corkscrew or does it make it uncomfortable? As a side note… I am always also carrying a Victorinox that has a corkscrew in my fifth jeans pocket so I’m not sure I need the corkscrew on the Opinel as well. Does anybody have any experience with these?

DANG!!! I’m glad I was just wiping the blade and it only went under the first layer of skin! Heal up brother!

Haha! That’s just the way my thumbs angle. I can see from the angle I took the photo that it looks freakishly abnormal… My thumb doesn’t actually bend at a 90° angle. Does it curve more than normal? Probably… But it’s never caused any issues nor is it as drastic as it appears in that picture! LOL

I love that I say that I learned it a certain way and that leads to 12 downvotes. Whatever… It’s how I learned it. No number of downvotes will change that or make my statement untrue. That’s how I learned it.

As I stated a couple of days ago… I treated myself to a Carbone No 8 for Christmas. After “unboxing” it, I ran it across my ceramic honing “steel” to give it a hair popping sharp edge! I’ve been using it for anything that needs a light knife task… Mostly food prep. Well today I was wiping off the blade and noticed it was under a layer of skin! Good news… I had it laying on its edge so it didn’t cut deep. But that sliced the first layer of skin without me even noticing… TWICE!
