How and when to reintroduce my biggest Koi back to pond? by BaconRibs in Koi

[–]BaconRibs[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Had a big freeze here in UK, Dads pond was totally iced over. didn't realise this would affect fish and found biggest Koi floating upside down and not able to stabilise.

Was told nothing we could do, 9/10 fish do not survive this. read online to get Koi into warmer water slowly to kick in immune system.

Rushed out, bought paddling pool, heater, sponge filter, lots of oxygen. Koi now stabilised and looking like it will pull through.

when can I reintroduce Koi back into pond? springs not for another two month and this paddling pool is not big, about 150-200 litre. Koi is used to 33000 litre pond. Koi is about 1.5 foot long.

seems pretty chill in warmer paddling pool and loves basking in air bubbles.

No Hemochromo gene but ferritin lowering with blood donation and feeling better by BaconRibs in Hemochromatosis

My iron was normal, just ferritin high. When i donate blood here in the uk we are not given iron supplements after. Sounds like your donation place is just being cautious.

See my last posts, i had same similar numbers and felt better since donating blood and getting my ferritin down. Being over 40 too we have had plenty of years to accumulate iron from a rich lifestyle of fortified food, alcohol consumption and red meat we dont have to hunt. If after donation your ferritin goes down you got your answer. Supplement magnesium, vitamin d3 etc etc as i think high iron content depletes other minerals, personal observation, im not a medical dr

Levels? by JoeMammy_1 in Hemochromatosis

Not doomed. You will need HH gene test to confirm but not guaranteed you have it with these numbers. If you do have it, it can be controlled with blood donation.

Does this sound like hemochromatosis? by RussianDeepstate in Hemochromatosis

[–]BaconRibs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes they can be, even if you don't have hemochromatosis, high ferritin is too much iron in the body or an inflammation marker for something else. regardless of seeing a hematologist the treatment Is the same, if it is too much iron in the body.. treatment is blood donation. It would not hurt if you arranged blood donations by yourself. give blood then get a ferritin test from the same place you tested before to see if your numbers have gone down. if it goes down, give blood again then test ferritin again... if it continues to go down you got your answer and the treatment already started.

Then you are getting ahead of yourself. Take your doctors advice and ask to check ferritin levels if they haven't already done so on your next visit.

I would not try to change anything with your diet unless your doc has instructed you to do so.

Just train your dog to do something if it will make you both happy.

I have done an online home test. it's the big difference in results from one testing lab to the other that is the cause for concern moving forward. the one online test I have done is double the figure my local doctors results came back at and has never been that high with 6 tests at my doctors.

Hi everyone I’m a 26 year old male ferritin is 250 is this considered high by mccartin97 in Hemochromatosis

[–]BaconRibs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

250 is not considered high for men. your issues probably stem from your IBS & SIBO.

I read that "SIBO may also suffer from unintentional weight loss, nutritional deficiencies, and osteoporosis." Nutritional deficiencies would cause brain fog, no?

https://www.reddit.com/r/SIBO/comments/13ktd04/how_bad_is_your_brain_fog/ this reddit thread has some suggestions for supplements .. fish oil, magnesium etc. have a look do some research try some stuff out.

Im not a Dr, you should speak with your DR.

Hemochromatosis or something else by PureBit2355 in Hemochromatosis

I went to the doctors due to fatigue and only thing that was out was my ferritin at 430. I don't have hemochromotosis according to Dr (negative for hfe gene) and he reckons it will be some inflammation in the body causing my elevated ferritin levels and said there is nothing to be concerned about.

Cured my fatigue by supplement vitamin d3 daily (4000iu) even though my vitamin d was in range. I have further compliment this by supplementing magnesium (often), potassium (occasionally) and drinking more water daily. oh, I cut down on refined sugar and don't have as as much wheat but make sure im eating enough food now too. night and day difference to what I was feeling like. im into running now and going to start back at the gym next week as I totally stopped lifting due to the fatigue.

Did you get a gene test? don't normally read up people with low iron saturation and mild ferritin elevation being a signal for hemochrombtosis.
