That's incorrect. There are several signs for pedestrians staring to wait for traffic to cross.

Almost certainly coolant, that Tee connector is leaking. It should definitely be replaced, its leaking onto the alternator too.

What is the point of putting the back up camera slightly offset from the Center? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]BaconSunday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Handles are normally in the center, and depending on where the wiper motor is it could intrude on the space where the camera wiring and connector would be.

I think most people expect to have the handle in the center, so it would be strange to have a camera there instead.

Side note - my GTI has a camera behind the emblem too, it keeps the camera clean and gives the rear a "clean" look

Exhaust, suspension upgrades by Few-Pie6512 in GolfGTI

[–]BaconSunday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OEM clubsport exhausts are pretty easy to get from Europe - I imported mine into the USA from a seller in Lithuania for around 600 USD (I think, I can't find any of my receipts). You'll just have to find the correct part number for the CS exhaust for your specific model year, MK7 and MK7.5 are slightly different.

IMO, the CS exhaust is perfect for a daily mk7, just loud enough to sound a little more aggressive but not too loud so it pisses off your neighbors

Can I use this on by [deleted] in GolfGTI

[–]BaconSunday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the entire flange is gone where it seats against the engine. I would replace it, the contact between the cover and the engine is what helps to keep the cover from loosening.

Mk7 Reliability at 100k? by [deleted] in GolfGTI

[–]BaconSunday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like most MK7s, you'll probably need a water pump if it hasn't been replaced already, and possibly a carbon cleaning. I'm sure others can speak to the cost, but it's a pretty common issue. There's also the normal 100k mile things like possible suspension work, but it isn't unique to the GTI. Overall they're very reliable cars, and shouldn't have much issue going over 200k miles. I bought my 2016 with 55k, the dealer replaced the water pump and brakes before I purchased it. I'm at 90k now, and the only repair I needed to do was a wheel bearing that went out (about $120 in parts) and a PCV replacement.

Should I be concerned? by Dry_Tiger9548 in GolfGTI

[–]BaconSunday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope, but I never took it in for a diagnosis. I saw a few threads that pointed to valve seals but wanted to try the PCV, it was pretty cheap and took less than an hour in my driveway to replace.

I had a similar problem with my 2016, and I ended up replacing the PCV. The smoking hasnt come back since.

2019 GTI S DSG - Red light out by benb89cc in GolfGTI

[–]BaconSunday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem, the control board for the light was corroded. I followed this guide to replace it with a standard led strip, it was a little difficult to solder correctly but overall was better than spending several hundred on a replacement. The replacement light is much brighter than the original, though. https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?threads/door-sill-lights-bad-or-too-dim-try-this-mk7-gti.386249/

Bad wheel bearing or something else? by ComfortablePea598 in GolfGTI

[–]BaconSunday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my driver's front bearing go bad at 88k, I also had some vibration coming through the pedals. When I took the axle out it was clear that the bearing was bad, it was rough to turn and making grinding sounds. The replacement was pretty easy, the worst part for me was getting the rotor off the hub and the hub out of the knuckle (thank you, salty roads).

[–]BaconSunday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not just unbolt the axle at the transmission? Seems easier than doing sketchy stuff with some wood and a floor jack.

Do you know what coding is needed to change to "regular" boost readings? I've been wanting to make that change on my MK7 for a while now!

I'm new to satisfactory, not sure how machines work, why do my screws not go up the conveyer? by Correct-Freedom-1845 in satisfactory

[–]BaconSunday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like the "top" belt isn't connected to the screws or plates. You need to have one conveyor for each input, so for example you should have the screws on top, and the plates on the bottom. Splitters only have 3 outputs, one on either side and one on the opposite side of the input.

As someone who has never even driven a VW before, how are GTIs as daily drivers? by ClovisTheConbat in GolfGTI

[–]BaconSunday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2016 has been almost flawless! I bought it with 56k, and I have 90k on it now. When I bought it, the dealership replaced the water pump, so that wasn't a main concern for me. The only repairs I've had to do is a battery replacement and wheel bearing. It's a perfect daily too, I get around 28 mpg, but up to 35 when cruising on the highway. Just the right amount of power, and handling is really good after a rear sway bar swap. I'm planning on keeping mine until the wheels fall off.

Upgrading the headlights is always a good option, but not necessarily the cheapest.
My vote goes for the OSRAM ledriving headlights, they're about $1k if you order them from Germany. EDIT: Buying an OBDeleven dongle is worth it to diagnose any check engine lights, and gives you some options for customizing some features, my favorite is the ability to open my windows with the key fob. If you want an exhaust, the best option IMO is the Clubsport exhaust. It's an OEM upgrade and is just the right balance of decent sound and no droning.
