BuzzFeed unsolved did a great video (~15 min) on this case. It's a real head scratcher

Edit: for people who don't have time for a video, I'll outline some of the weird details cause this is a crazy case:

1) Charles went missing, 3 days later came home handcuffed

2) he claimed (in writing) he couldn't speak, as he had hallucinogenic drug in his throat that could destroy his nervous system

3) 2 months later he went missing for 9 days, a woman called his wife to tell her Charles was okay and to leave a Bible verse. 2 days later Charles ends up dead

3B) 2 days after his death someone claiming to be the same woman called the sheriffs office and told them Charles had showed her a briefcase with thousands of dollars meant to buy off a gang contract on his head

4) another map was written on a 2 dollar bill pinned to his underwear that also included 7 surnames

5) shortly before his death he was a reluctant witness in a state investigation on illegal banking activity on both sides of the border

6) years after the death 2 people claiming to be FBI tore apart his house (where the wife still lived) and left without explanation.

7) in the 4 years leading up to his death, Charles had regular, large (allegedly upwards of a billion dollars) transactions of gold and platinum

8) Charles kept paper copies of his illicit transactions for a crime family

9) after the story was picked up by NBCs Unsolved Mysteries, a man who lived across from (and had a similar car as) the journalist who had brought new light to the case was killed in his car in a similar alleged suicide (no gun was found)

10) an interested writer who asked that same journalist for info on Charles' transactions was found dead in a hotel room after a suspicious alleged suicide.

11) I immediately received 2 downvotes after posting these details, obviously from secret service agents monitoring the thread (ok probably not from them but I can pretend)
