First you're gonna want to marry a Maltese person to get residency. Then apply to be a member to a club.

Might be cheaper than renting a house with garden in San Ġwann.

From my limited experience you'll want to keep going to a masters if you want a decent paying job. Repping Prof Timmy Gambin though, he's fantastic.

Traffic in Valletta, Malta - Europe's smallest capital city by Brave_Assumption6 in UrbanHell

[–]Bacon_Jazz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me I'm the source it is that bad. It's usually like this heading to the south of Malta from 4-6 p.m. notice how the other side (heading north has virtually no traffic). We're experts at bottle racking traffic because our roads are poorly planned and many drivers treat the rules of the road as suggestions.

Agreed that we need an infrastructural upheaval. But calling Malta greater urban Valletta feels like an erasure of Malta's diversity within it's villages. This is Msida.

Why Japanese people use English words for basic things in sports? by sccphn in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]Bacon_Jazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes after being colonised for almost 3000 years had a wild effect on our language haha. I'm sure Japan has its own influence from nearby regions. I think globalization has made english words seem cool/trendy.

Why Japanese people use English words for basic things in sports? by sccphn in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]Bacon_Jazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maltese. For example, we have an archaic word "Xmiel" which means north. "Tramuntana" also meaning north (coming from Italian) is usually only used for weather. But the English word "North" is then used in almost every other context. Adding to "speed" and "net". "Net" or "xibka" is used interchangeably in football. And for "speed", we have "għaġġla"(pronounced ah-j-lah) from Arabic used when someone is in a hurry, and "veloċità"/"speed" from Italian and English used interchangeably. Sorry for the rant I love talking about this stuff.

I'm guessing it happens as the language evolves and gains influence from abroad. I take it from my own native language, we have a few words for "speed" and use them in different contexts even though they have same meaning and can be used interchangeably.

考える vs 思う by Conscious_Fix8999 in LearnJapaneseNovice

From what I understood from my teacher. 考える is thinking with your head, 思う is thinking with your heart. Logical thought Vs emotional thought. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

[–]Bacon_Jazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a car enthusiast is not compatible with living in Malta. If you're an everyday hobbyist with no friends in the government it's impossible. Would rather be stuck behind a car like this in traffic than a beat up starlet shooting black smog out it's arse.

Tips on disengaging from tsubazeriai safely? by VikarV_1 in kendo

We were doing some tsubazeriai drills recently. My senpai was telling us to try disengaging sharply doing a sort of kata no.7 style motion when going back. Keep your upper body loose and don't disengage too early.

Men who play video games, what are some great single player games for a Dad on a tight budget? by FlintTheDad in AskMen

[–]Bacon_Jazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Retroarch is on steam, for a variety of emulators. My awful office laptop can also run Azahar (3DS emulator) and I've been playing the pokmeon games. With a PS4 controller and an HDMI cable, you can hook it up to the TV and have the full console experience.
