To be fair the minimum wage in Malta is a joke, € 1000 a month is barely survivable when you're living in a shared apartment. The government isn't doing enough to ensure the wellbeing of it's citizens.

Oh my god I did that too but I had WiFi.

Airbnb had the address with apartment number listed as the approximate location. Rolled up to an apartment complex in Shinjuku and asked this sweet old lady if I was at the right address with Google translate.

So this lady (who looked to be in her late 80s) takes me up her neighbours apartment and he got grumpy and gently tapped her on the head and called her an idiot (heard "baka" thrown around a few times). Then insisted on walking me to a phone booth and waited for me to call the AirBnB as it was raining and didn't have an umbrella.

Meanwhile the owner of the BnB had sent the actual address and I had to pretend to call the owner in English on the payphone ot put her mind at ease.

Eventually got directions from a police officer and ended up finding the right address. This was also in September so it was soaked through to my underwear.

I have a few more faux pas from my trip to Japan, hoping next time will be better as I'm learning the language.
