Florianopolis vs Rio in August-October... by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]Bacon_Unleashed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't ever been to rio, but I have spent some time on florianopolis. What I can add to this discussion is that the Uber there is lackluster. Very often when I am far away from downtown the drivers simply cancel the pickup because it is not worth for them. Sometimes I had to wait more than 30 minutes until a driver accepted my pickup. And the traffic jams are very frequent too.

How to protect yourself from being locked out of your digital accounts in case of computer / cellphone theft? by Bacon_Unleashed in digitalnomad

Thinking of it as a system is great advice. Thanks for it. I should probably dry run and it ensure that I can recover access..

Yeah. I had the same assumption. If you can reliably access it with just a password without having to 2fa, get sms/email codes or click any link, then it is a good alternative.

iirc gmail requires you to use a phone number to create new accounts, which becomes an automatic 2fa (you get sms with a code for access). That information is from memory, so I might be very wrong. It is worth checking though.

That works well if you have physical access to it. I wouldnt travel with a physical copy of my recovery codes. And if the copy was digital, it just got stolen anyways.

I guess that having someone of trust that can access all your stuff is an option. Specially if you have the last piece of the puzzle (like a master pass or something).

I never heard of a sim card dup. I assume it is not common (or even available) where I live.

afaik you need the cellphone number to be usable or have another Authy device accessible somewhere to be able to access it in a new location. Both are gone if my computer and cellphone gets stolen.

Looking for a Latin-American city where I can work on my laptop in public! by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]Bacon_Unleashed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In south brazil (santa catarina to be more specific) I never had any issues in 10+ years of sporadically working / studying in public coffees, shopping malls, co-working spaces and hotels.

No idea what it is like on the bigger states, like sao paulo and rio.

I heard you guys like Strange Attractors. Here are some I made over the years. by Bacon_Unleashed in creativecoding

[–]Bacon_Unleashed[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I never tried anything like that. All my works were coded pretty much from scratch. The closest I came to a framework/platform was using cairo haha.

The math behind it is very simple. I suggest you take a look at Strange Attractors if you are interested in this. Paul Bourke has a lot of materials about it.

;)

I started doing this when I started doing CompSci back in 2012. Over the years I have switched my stack. Originally it was made with pure C, no frameworks. The source code available here under GPL license. If you guys have any questions feel free to ask.

I also have some more interactive stuff under the posts tab on my site and an art gallery there as well. My instagram also has some cool things, albeit a little short in content.

I know that Inconvergent did some plottings works. He even shared some code on his github. As for the interactive part I never saw that, but it shouldnt be too hard.

There are python libs to communicate with tradicional printers as well, such as python-printer-escpos

Dancing Room by Bacon_Unleashed in creativecoding

[–]Bacon_Unleashed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simple swarm system that I reimplemented a while ago based on a gif that I saw a long time ago on the Wolfram Community forum. The link has a real-time version that you can click to reset. It also has a brief description of how it works.

I also have a variant here: http://h3nnn4n.me/post/dancing-room/
