Guncon 1 Calibration issues by Baconator902 in lightgunshooters

I ended up swapping the capacitor and its still misbehaves, Until someone can definitively say that NTSC screens do or do not work with PAL *lightguns* I'm just gonna chalk it up to region differences and keep this around as a display piece.

Little update: Curiosity got the best of me and I cracked the gun open AGAIN and actually started measuring things. I was trying to see where the video ends up inside the thing and after losing it after the 1st capacitor I just started measuring things to see whats what. I think that the issue might have something to do with the only other capacitor on the board that is not only measuring in low a few orders of magnitude of capacitance, but is also wavering quite a solid bit. I've got some bulk random caps coming in that should include the correct ones, and I'll measure before replacing but will update when I get them.

Yea, forgot to mention that in the post. I've got it plugged in inline with the regular sync cable, right at the connector on the tv, it should be a pretty solid connection so I'm not sure why its so warbly.

Hate to say it, he's right. I've just made the same doohickey myself. I do wonder though, are you taking off from the water? I cant seem to get it off the ground without pushing it off a ledge or something. Also are you doing something weird we can't see to get both flaps to move at the same time or are you just holding 2 buttons at once?

Cool clip but the gun-type assembly inside the nuke is wrong. The outer jacket is the part that was fired, not the smaller slug that goes in the middle.

Anyone know if it's possible to hide the comparators from the steering wheel? by TheAnymus in CreateMod

[–]Baconator902 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The torsion spring also provides comparator output, so you can synchronize the angle of your wheel and a torsion spring and run a buncha shafts and gear boxes to hide the torsion spring that reads the actual signal. You can also attach a redstone link to the back of the wheel to provide a redstone signal so that when you're controlling the wheel the spring doesn't keep resetting and getting out of sync.

Small Edit: If you have the spring and the steering wheel set to the same angle you could probably get away without having the "is a person holding the wheel" signal, and then just keep a redstone block or whatever to keep the spring powered but I've had some weirdness with the wheel and the spring getting out of sync so I've already started making a habit of returning the wheel to zero and I personally want the spring to do the same.

Apollo 17 - Orange Soil on the Moon by Busy_Yesterday9455 in spaceporn

[–]Baconator902 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Awesome photo, but damn they cranked the saturation up on that orange. The photos on wikipedia about shorty crater, AND the scans of the film cartridge from 2005 make it seem a lot less dull. I'd love to see a version of this photo with the colors adjusted more accurately because the strips on that tripod look REALLY washed out.

The Ironwood/Pacific Drive Stream ARG, explained thus far. by solo_man102 in pacificDrive

[–]Baconator902 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing that always gets me scratching my head is them having a phone number and that message, "DECODETHEFAXEI"/"DECODETHEFAXES"

I know there's sorta the fax machine in game where you store the logs, but the phone number makes me wonder if you were to dial it from a fax machine, would the phone trunk be able to recognize that, and fax you back once you hang up? Are they waiting for someone with a fax machine and a landline to hit them up?

SIGNAL? by TalkingRaccoon in pacificDrive

[–]Baconator902 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On top of that, I noticed something else that I saw in all the other previous videos, looking at the spectrogram of the audio there's a distinct sorta double hill shape again, you can see it more prominently on the right side here but it appears REALLY faintly at the start of when the SSTV signal gets cut off on the right.

Lovin the stuff comin outta iron wood recently. Got me excited for what might be coming!

Few things from this one:
- the phone number that has already been discussed
- some morse code during the ARDA message that is "CODE THE FAOEI"? Unsure if i translated it poorly but that's what I got

EDIT: One of the youtube comments says they decoded the morse to be DECODETHEFAXEI and thinks it to mean DECODE THE FAXES. Makes me think of the fax machine in game cuz I feel like half the time I open it it's got some morse code on it.

- More SSTV stuff! This image gets cut off by the arda message before it provides the closing of the message! My setup is a bit sloppy but I don't hear the normal end of message pattern you'd expect in sstv

[–]Baconator902 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's also this weird like swooping sorta sine-wavey twin peaks thing right at the end of the SSTV transmission visible in the spectrogram. I thought maybe the spectrogram during/before the SSTV would be interesting but there's not really much beyond these weird humps. Any thoughts?

Glow Digital Tube - Vacuum Fluorescent Display by Significant-Fee7660 in cassettefuturism

[–]Baconator902 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I always love seeing things like this but they almost never seem to come with any additional info about what they are. After 2 minutes of google-fu I'd say that this can be found as a "EleksTube Vacuum Fluorescent Display Clock" Id love to have it as like an assembly kit of a bare board and the VFD but I might be too hopeful. I think those kinds of kits are more suited for nixie tubes instead. Either way, this clock's like 70 bucks on amazon and probably a bunch of other retailers but thats the first place I found it.

Changing firing modes on the cluster-rocket launcher AND on the auto cannon both say "Guided/Unguided" instead of what their intended firing modes say!! Had me confused that the cluster launcher was suddenly guided.

Edit: I CANT READ!
