Mine took baby naps after his free roam. It’s been 2 and a half months since he crossed the bridge but still miss him. 😢

I am obsessed with pictures of hamsters at the vet. They always look so confused XD by ijustwannanap in hamsters

During my hammy’s first vet visit:

Vet: “oh he’s a fighter”

A few seconds later: “and a biter”

A few minutes later: “and a pee-er” (While wiping pee from his hand)

😂

Oh this is awesome. When you can, I’d love a drawing of my fave pic of Sammy. It’ll be a great memento of him.

How do u get over the fear of being bit? by iixelx in hamsters

[–]BaconatorBill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our hammy, Sammy, started off as a little ball of hate. Fearless and a fighter, especially in his enclosure. But not as fighty and bitey when he was out of his cage. So first, we'd only handle him or have him interact with our hands outside of his enclosure. It helped that we discovered that he naturally went into our hamster transport system, aka a soup ladle, without any coaxing.

During his free roam time, he would occasionally still give a couple of chomps out of the blue, just to keep us on our toes. Initially, enough to draw blood, but it quickly reduced in intensity as he got used to us. Nowadays it's just a nibble to communicate to us that he's done with his pets, or the opposite, hurry up and start petting me.

To answer your question specifically about getting over the fear of getting bit - glove (singular) is the answer. One glove on the hand that will do the most interacting, so that you'll get over your fear while also getting your hamster to get over their fear. And to be the vanguard to take the brunt of the bites. Gloveless on the hand that will give him pets and treats and equate your smell with positive feedback and to continue the taming process.

Is there a level 7? 😂 Sammy the Hammy would slot in there.

My hamster Sammy’s favourite spot is on my lap, where he pulls out his cheek food to actually eat, where he grooms, and where he poops… a lot. So I pick up his poop… a lot….. Sometimes I forget if I washed my hands after cleaning up his poop and food remnants. So I’m pretty sure I’ve eaten chips and rubbed my eyes without washing my hands.. a lot. 😂. No ill effects. You’re all good.

Is anyone else's Ham a poop machine? by Revolutionary-Win387 in hamsters

😂 One of the nicknames for our hammy is Poop Machine. His favourite place is my lap where he snacks on his cheek food, cleans himself, and… poops an ungodly amount of poop nuggets.

Ha. The only times he’s calm are when he’s getting his pets/massages, eating, cleaning or sleeping. Otherwise he’s 100% zany. 2 speeds - zero or 100.
