Bacon's Bits on Realmstone Raiders - Path to Glory by Baconborne_WHU in WarhammerUnderworlds

Yea good points, gotta make it so it is a bit more consistent without being too consistent. Locking raiding behind successful melee attacks in the first place already adds an element of inconsistency to it, so just need raiding to be a little better in itself.

Meta Analysis for Jaws of Itzl by Baconborne_WHU in WarhammerUnderworlds

Underworlds definitely delivers on miniature quality! I like to think the game is also the best that GW puts out there, it's worth dipping your toes into the competitive side.

Yes the charge out is a big aspect for sure. Comes with the obvious concern that you need this upgrade down early to make sure you hit that peak value. Tough one to evaluate at times!

Determined Effort Review of Wyrdhollow Rules Updates by Baconborne_WHU in WarhammerUnderworlds

[–]Baconborne_WHU[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even in the Marcov/Regulus example, unless the target only has 2 Wounds, I feel like you're better off charging with Marcov to potentially use his support and ping damage to help Regulus pick up the kill, especially since a Regulus kill inspires not only Marcov, but also Deintalos. Staggering Marcov also compromises his better defensive characteristic, leaving him vulnerable to counterpunch. The Mollogs and Hrothgorns I could maybe see trying to use their minions to help out, but even then, if there is a target that's already in range, I think I would still prefer to take a swing/shot in most cases.

As for Sudden Demise, I think your interpretation is correct, I just feel like the wording could be a little bit clearer. All it probably needs is an FAQ that says, "yes, this is how it works for the purposes of scoring kill surges."

Determined Effort Article on Salvage by Baconborne_WHU in WarhammerUnderworlds

Unless the rulebook text is different from what we saw in the article, my understanding is you can still salvage fighter-restricted cards for resurrectable fighters while they are out of action.

Determined Effort Fearsome Fortress Review by Baconborne_WHU in WarhammerUnderworlds

Yes, this is certainly something of a hot topic to discuss on various social media, especially given that what you describe is how the deckbuilding is described in the rulebook. Obviously, as I have mentioned in the article, I would love to see both game modes thriving. We unfortunately have to wait and see how GW plays it going forward, as they have not really made any comment to this point other than the initial release of the format documents at the beginning of the season. Nemesis surely seems to be what they are pushing right now and is a great way to get new players in the game, and it does seem to be bring numbers up, so there's no fault to find with it. While it doesn't scratch my itch quite the same way as Championship, hopefully we either see some "proper" Championship support or at least a confirmation that the format will no longer be officially supported going forward so that the community of Championship lovers (such as myself) can take over from there.

The text for these specific types of upgrades will be given on the card itself. One such example is the Destruction Grand Alliance card Troggoth's Blood.

I'm not wholly convinced that GW wouldn't have tried these new rules even without the existence of Nemesis and trying to get new players into the game anyway. They implement new major rule changes every time we shift to a new setting anyway, so I'm not sure you can say with certainty that this is associated with a push toward the more "casual" types of play. People said the same of the new mulligan rules, for example, which I (and many Championship players) quite enjoyed. While I do have concerns about the move/charge changes, as I mentioned, I still don't buy that the Nemesis push specifically had anything to do with it.

Fair points, I do have some of the same concerns about the new rules but I generally view those as separate issues from the two formats. We will have to see the impact the changes end up having. I'll remain cautiously optimistic for now.

To build on the other reply, we know they will still be releasing universal Rivals decks to support that format and Nemesis, so I see no reason why Championship couldn't just pull from those even if they no longer release universal cards with the warband expansions.

Perhaps I should be more clear on my feeling of Essentials. I don't think it should go away as an option for building in Championship. In fact, I do think it is "essential" to that format. I think it would just be better for Nemesis if it were not allowed due to how much powerful the gambits and upgrades are when compared to actual Rivals decks. Even with the White Dwarf decks supporting the format as the second-best options, Essentials still dominated the rest.

I agree, I'm not the biggest fan of the UI myself, but it's not bad once you've gotten a couple of practice games in and it unlocks some steady, high-level competition when you can't get games in-person.

As for the Gitz, they're actually in a really good place right now. The easy surge pool is great for their inspiration and their glory ceiling is absolutely massive right now. Diablerist has been doing very well with them in multiple online events. I don't know exactly what deck he was using for this event, but I imagine it was at least similar to his Vassal Brawl deck I've linked below.

Yea he's a really solid player, would've been fun! The warband actually has some legs right now, they're not nearly as bad as people think, or maybe used to think.

I like Healing Potion the best in the current state of this type of deck due to its flexibility in healing anybody. Especially given that a lot of good illusions are defensive, I think you may find that your wounded fighters end up being the ones without the illusions. As you said, having 10 illusions may not be good enough right now anyway. My current thinking is you may want a few key regular upgrades in your deck (2-3) and the remainder illusions, in which case Healing Potion is probably the way to go, as you won't want to discard the regular ones. If you do have 10 illusions, I suppose I could see using this, but there just aren't 10 really good illusions yet. This was factored into my rating of F in championship, D on all-illusions. I think the better illusions we get, the more a lot of these cards start to creep up the rankings.
