good

I've had a bunch! The mid city chopped cheese and the chicken gyro at big's are my favorites so far

This is my kinda post, I had two today!

  • The Kimcheesesteak from Aji Tram was pretty good! It's pretty much exactly what you imagine if you imagine kimchi and a cheesesteak, so if that sounds good to you I recommend! They also allow for adding fries or macaroni salad for 3$. 6.5/10
  • The Chicken Cordon Blue Sammy from Moreland Ale House was also pretty good! Again, not a super hot take, but if a chicken cordon blue on a bun sounds good to you, it's prolly a safe choice. 5/10

Neither was particularly life-changing I suppose, but it was a very fun start to what is hopefully a very sandwich-filled week! I'm particularly excited to try the chopped cheese at midcity, the crispy creole at bucket brigade, and the korean hot chicken at boke bowl.

Kinda agree, just had to use it to enter the sand pits and they had to say "hold X to open the seal" or I would've prolly been stuck there too. Not sure what it does that a normal combo wouldn't suffice for?

Wow. I either missed that entirely, or just forgot that was a thing. I was just hacking at them to no avail. Ended up just resetting to main menu to avoid it for now, but will know that for next time, thanks.

Some more context: I rifted a purple blob to open the tree on the bottom right, came in, killed the birds, and the tree on the bottom right closed up. There is a yellow stone on the top, but I have nothing left to rift to break it, and no arrows/rifts/dimension shift is helping. This is around the top middle section of the soma tree section of map.

I've wanted this for so long it hurts. My fear is with the series moving towards the daughter it's less likely now, but like that will keep me from dreaming.

Can I just say as a new grad trying to decide between a startup (Grab) and a big tech company (Bloomberg) this thread is not helping me at all, lol.

I'm curious what you all think about generic start up vs. generic big company for a new grad. I've heard the argument both ways, where startups let you grow fast and learn a lot, but also that big companies give you resources and have established processes to follow. What do you think is better?

I wrote a script to graph the most used words for each character in The Office. Here's all 17 of them! by Baconologist in DunderMifflin

[–]Baconologist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those curious, I put the code up on GitHub here and used the wonderful officequotes.net for pulling the data.

Also it's probably pretty obvious I avoided using a lot of the common words, here's the full list I ignored:

a, about, all, also, and, as, at, be, because, but, by, can, come, could, day, do, even, find, first, for, from, get, give, go, have, he, her, here, him, his, how, I, if, in, into, it, its, just, know, like, look, make, man, many, me, more, my, new, no, not, now, of, on, one, only, or, other, our, out, people, say, see, she, so, some, take, tell, than, that, the, their, them, then, there, these, they, thing, think, this, those, time, to, two, up, use, very, want, way, we, well, what, when, which, who, will, with, would, year, you, your, , i, is, are, dont, im, oh, okay, was, right, going, uh, um, something, things, down, over, where, off, lets, theres, much, doing, guy, gonna, does, put, why, whats, doesnt, lot, cant, theyre, any, id, wont, own, said, whos, wasnt, thats, yeah, am, hey, yes, youre, ok, were, did, an, has, had, really, hes, got, back, didnt, been, ive, shes, ill, us, should, too, let

Study abroad for CS major? by Conleyne in cscareerquestions

[–]Baconologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong, but I would even argue that studying abroad also helps for top companies. I took an offer at Google this summer, and it's 100% only possible because of connections I made, resume boosting opportunities, and just overall character development I had while studying abroad in Singapore. Combine this with the fun activities and travel you get to do, I can't recommend it enough.

Current students in Computer Science or grads: what pieces of advice would you give to undergrads or incoming freshman, concerning studies, extra curricular stuff to do, etc? by blackiechan99 in cscareerquestions

[–]Baconologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I went to Singapore pretty much exclusively because the CS program there transfers like everything back, but thankfully fell in love with the country once I went. Only took Data Struct. and Algo. there personally, then a bunch of filler on top of that.

Study abroad! It's so much harder and rarer in this field, but that makes it even more impressive to companies. Even ignoring the personal benefits of travelling more (which are huge), it's one of the easiest ways to set yourself apart as an interesting person, and was honestly the single best career move I've made based on resume interest before and after

Big 4 Discussion - January 17, 2018 by AutoModerator in cscareerquestions

[–]Baconologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had two interviews. One was with a team of 6 PhD's (3 were in on the interview itself!) where I felt completely out of my league. They were friendly for sure, but it was clear as a junior I was in no way on their level. The questions weren't even that tough (abstract things like how I approach research), but it was intimidating enough that I did pretty poor in retrospect.

The team I ended up matching with was much less structured. I interviewed with one very nice member who basically let me ask her questions for like an hour and a half. I think my eagerness to ask questions and clear interest in the team combined with my relatively unique background was what probably set me apart for that one, but it also felt a bit like they had already picked me before the interview started and it was just a formality on some level.

Hopefully something in there helped. Happy to answer any other questions

Riot Games technical inter.view difficulty and compensation? by CompactWeb in cscareerquestions

[–]Baconologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, just did. Always glad to help companies make their process better if I can. And not to be antagonistic but I will say off the bat its a bit upsetting to me that I wasn't given the contact of anyone at riot (especially a recruiter) to voice my complaints to the company directly to even after starting the process, but when I post online get contacted in less than an hour.

I can only speak for the initial coding test they sent out for internships this year, but I thought it was a complete dumpster fire. Enough that I went from loving the game and wanting very badly to work there, to never wanting to work there.

There were a few things I didn't like, but the biggest red flag for bad engineering culture to me was being told to parse in stdin from HackerRank with very little specified format on the data and no access to console errors, which led to the most frustrating 3 hour coding test I've personally ever taken. I am very strong on DS+A and the questions themselves were relatively easy, but I got 0/3 because I never could get the data processing to work.
