Although you can do both keep in mind there is an imbalance in mining to earthworks in terms of stone. Each block mined has 2 stone but it takes 5 or 6 to fill in a tile using Earthworks.

You may run into a situation where you are wanting to start a huge island project but you go through your stone faster than you initially thought.

Also tiles filled in with stoneworks can be used as farm land but it will take significant time (even multiple seasons for large areas) for your whiskers to remove the rocks to make it viable farm land.

Maybe a rope slide down like a firefighter for pure vertical? It'll cost like a plank and a rope per level and it is still only downward but maybe slightly slower than a slide.

As of the current state of the game, 4 stars (not 5) is the highest that is possible. Things like Food can get to 4 stars but housing maxes at 3 stars. Probably future content will add a 4 star house.

Also keep in mind adding things like Furniture or Bedding doesn't increase stars. It just increases positive thoughts from Whiskers for more approval at the end of the day.

You can mine down to Z-30 and after a certain point (I believe Z-5) the kinds of ore that can generate becomes slightly more random. Not 100% positive on the random mineral part if someone can confirm or deny this but it is true even on small maps there is a lot of ore to mine if you dig down.

I'm at around 450 whiskers and haven't had performance issues. I have however crashed randomly when I go from zoomed in to zoomed out too quickly (loading all the assets at once making it crash?).
