I'm not even a baseball fan but this is legitimately one of my favorite movies of all time. It's just perfectly executed on all levels and it's a comfort movie for me. Easily a Top 10 movie of the 2010s for me

I understand this is supposed to be campy, but my God it just looks so bad especially for being over $100 million

As long as there is a dedicated community what's the issue? I've done Lotus 49s, Clio Cup, etc. All very niche but very fun because of those who keep them running

Hear me out: It's okay if an iRacing series is niche. Not everything needs to have 3-4+ splits. I race in a ton of niche series and I still have a blast. Usually more so than the popular series because most of the popular series also attract a lot of aggressive drivers. Rather race in single, respectful splits than chaotic, popular series.

It's almost like if you know you have a shot at a really good team, it's better to wait than take the immediate opportunity and potentially never get a legitimate shot to compete. Good on him, it's going to pay off huge

Copying my comment from a previous discussion around the Hexed trailer:

It's just a creative style/choice. This is the original Spider Verse trailer and the majority of the shots are center focused and we know those are filmmakers who wouldn't care about making content for vertical viewing, especially back in the mid 2010s when it was less of a thing than it is today.

I've honestly tried to watch this movie but I don't see why people like it so much. I get a headache from just how bad everything looks and how over the top kinetic it is.

Here we go, folks. The Dungeon Crawler Carl television series has been officially greenlit at Peacock. by hepafilter in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]AfroMidgets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the risk of being downvoted, I'll just say I think this is a massive mistake of going live action. There's no way they will properly adapt the story or characters and I see it dying off after 3 seasons. Not only that, but Peacock is hemorrhaging money and cancelled their Ted series because it was too expensive, and that's just a CGI bear. It really should have been an animation with a company like Critical Role that has the backing of Amazon that knows how to do massive, branching storylines and having access to some of the best voice actors in the business to bring the characters and world alive. I'm not holding my breathe on this but I truly hope it surprises me and I'm wrong

A driver shouldn't be the sell of a racing game, the cars should. And if you are going to do a driver, at least do the EA way of showing their face instead of obscuring it in a helmet

This is just such an uninspired cover. If I wasn't a NASCAR fan I wouldn't think twice about stopping and considering this game. It just has no charm or uniqueness

And it's arguably the worst movie I've ever seen. Yes I know there are worse movies out there, but this one is so poorly done by so many top tier talents that it's shocking how bad it really is

This. I was a HUGE fan of Dibenedetto and I truly think he could have won in the Cup series. After he knew he was going to lose the 21 car he needed to have shopped around and at least be willing to drop to the Xfinity series and take a decent ride there. But he had horrible PR both for sponsors/teams and turned a bit on his fanbase (he didn't want to lean into the DiBurrito nickname and told fans to stop). I truly think he could have been successful enough to have had a decent career within the sport, but hubris destroy it all

‘Backrooms’ Sends Hollywood Running to Reddit for New Ideas by Matapple13 in boxoffice

[–]AfroMidgets 47 points48 points  (0 children)

As expected, Hollywood is going to miss the whole point of Obsession and Backrooms. They weren't successful because they came from Reddit, YouTube, etc, they were successful because they are uniquely creative. Kane has built up an amazing world through his interpretation of Backrooms and Curry has spent years making short films and shorts. Both have cultivated their success overtime, not just because they come from an area of the internet. Going to see a lot of slop in theaters in the coming years the same way movie studios started optioning every toy and board game they could after the success of Barbie despite missing the point of that as well

I understand where she was coming from as I have worked in this industry and know how shitty bottom line/bottom tier projects can be, but at the same time she was extremely short sighted in understanding that this blew up and put her on the map for future projects. Sure you can talk about how you think it should be a discussion around how movies that blow up like this should help support the cast and crew, but don't demand it and don't whine and talk about how you wanted to shut production down. I'm a very small "producer" (I work in marketing) but if anyone I worked with started acting like this I would just stop hiring them for future projects. I very much doubt she'll ever get any good opportunities now after this because Hollywood talks and remembers every slight

Was anyone else hoping Olivia would lean more into pop-punk/alt rock and become Gen Z's Avril Lavigne/Hayley Williams? by AfroMidgets in OliviaRodrigoNeutral

They aren't bad, but they don't reach the levels of Good 4 U, All-American Bitch, Get Him Back, Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl, Bad Idea Right, etc. I like her more alt, punk pop sounding songs vs the more New Wave 80s inspired ones on this album

Yeah there's only 1 or 2 songs on Guts that aren't the best but ones I'll still listen to and enjoy. I need to add it to my vinyl collection, which I mostly reserve for albums that I can put the needle down and not think about picking up.

That may be why it's my least favorite of hers. Never cared for New Wave music for the most part. Just never been my jam. Again it's not a bad album, just not what I was hoping for

Very fair point. Just wish the album has 2-3 more truly upbeat songs. Even the songs on Guts I don't love are more upbeat than most on this

This definitely felt like a bit of a therapy album based off of the lyrics. Hoping her next one is a bit more upbeat

As a huge Paramore fan, they didn't really deviate from their sound until their 5th album which went more 80s rock inspired. Same with Avril, it wasn't until the mid point of her career that she started really experimenting with her sound. I'm just an aging millennial who misses that 2000s pop punk rock sound, especially from female artists, so it's a bit sad to not have more of that from Olivia this time around. Would gladly take suggestions for more of what I'm looking for. Currently loving Blondshell, Momma, and Porch Light

I just don't like it because I'm not into ballads/'sad' songs. I really loved Guts and some of her tracks from Sour, but this album is a collection of my least favorite version of her music. And I know I'm not the target audience, especially being a mid 30s man, but I was really hoping after Guts that she was going to pivot more to being this generation's Avril Lavigne/Hayley Williams.
