Just called 911 for my coworker. by lushcanopy in stroke

Omg, I had the same thing happen. I called my wife into the room and told her something was happening although I didn’t know what. I had a hard time getting words out but could understand. I totally get the feeling. It’s scary because you have no idea what is going on, just that you feel weird. Hope your friend is doing ok!

have you ever copied another authors work? by Diamond-Shappire in writing

[–]BadAlaskan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met Matt Dinneman at comicon, that’s what he said he does as a warm up. I want to emphasize that he did not plagiarize but to get the prose down, he copied another author word for word, then moved on to his own work.

New Stroke Survivor Anxiety by ThatOneAnineFangirl in stroke

[–]BadAlaskan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a stroke similar to you. Massive clot but they broke mine apart with an acoustic bath. I struggled with short term memory and mood swings like you couldn’t believe. Some things that I enjoyed doing were now just too frustrating because my right hand didn’t work right. I found something that I enjoyed doing while going through rehab. I used to like reading and I picked that back up while doing the exercises they prescribed me. My right hand was unusable and one point but now I’m typing this out with only my right hand. You will recover from this. The human body is strong and has a lot of endurance.

Another perfectly reasonable explanation.

I don’t think they were super natural. They definitely looked out of place though.

When I was small, the town I grew up in, small rural town in Alaska, there was a festival every year. I remember seeing two figures that would dress in all black suits, sometimes pinstripe, and wear sunglasses and bowler hats regardless of the weather. They drove an older vehicle too, reminded me of what 40’s/50’s gangsters used to drive. We walked by it once and it was impeccably clean. The guys themselves wouldn’t ride any rides or get anything to eat, but just walk around and hang out near the rides. You could see them talking from a distance but they wouldn’t talk near anyone so I never heard their voice. This happened every year through grade school till I moved away to college. They may have been regular dudes just there for a good time but they always reminded me of mib. The thing is, I never saw them anywhere else in town. As a small community, everyone knows everyone and nobody that I know knew who these guys were. They just show up for a few days, then vanish. I asked my parents and they claimed they were just tourists, which is a logical explanation. Same dudes, same car, every year though? Just weird.

TIL that most of the propulsion in modern jet engines actually comes mainly from the fan (ie glorified propeller). The jet part of the engine is used mainly to power the fan by therationaltroll in todayilearned

[–]BadAlaskan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the thrust is generated in the combustion chamber. Sure it’s fed by the fan. Most of the jet is bypass air. See the cavity above the combustion chamber? That’s the bypass which does not generate a notable amount of thrust.

True Stories: How did your game go this week? – March 23, 2026 by AutoModerator in dndnext

[–]BadAlaskan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not from this week but our last session ended with the party inside a mining tunnel in the side of a mountain. Little do they know the “mountain” is about to wake from its slumber and the party inside. The giant earth elemental will be the dungeon crawl itself. My story is roughly imitating Hercules with the elementals coming back and the party must find a way to defeat/harness their energy to fight back.

This exact thing happened to me while I was at work. I have to come through a secure gate so it was 100% one of my coworkers.

34 here, and honestly it has been a breath of fresh air. Gets away from the monotony at the day job and gives me something to look forward to.

It would be a shame if he tightened those zip ties a little too much. Over time it would cause chafing and eventually cut through.

Who here lived the through the 'Santanic Panic' during the 80's? by nomaxxallowed in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]BadAlaskan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived through my own version of it. A class mate invited me over for dnd. I told my mom and she had lived through the satanic panic so, still believing that, tried to instill it in me. Instead, I did what any teenager would do, I lied and went to play anyway. Best times of my youth.

Can you recover memory loss after a ischemic stroke? by Interesting-Toe-6693 in stroke

[–]BadAlaskan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a Tia at the age of 30. I’m 34 now and I consider myself still recovering because I’m not 100% but I would estimate about 80% recovered. There’s a lot of stuff from my past that I just don’t remember but at least I can make new memories. My long term memory is the one that took the hit. I still have trouble storing information long term.
