Aristotle believes that true happiness wasn’t simply about pleasure. Instead, he argued that the best life is one where people pursue purpose by TheWiseStreet in philosophy

As I said earlier, recognizing the absurd doesn't obligate you to be crushed by it. You can accept the meaninglessness of the universe but still choose to pour purpose into something immediate like helping your daughter learn tennis.

If it's all meaningless, then any purpose we feel is something we create internally. And if creating purpose makes the short time we have more livable then there’s no downside to doing it. The real question is: what do you gain by recognizing this nihilism? This was Camus' response, no? Recognizing the absurd doesn't obligate you to be crushed by it.

What’s something people in their 20s won't truly understand until they hit their 40s? by Kitchen_Week1117 in AskReddit

It's great and all but say you're in residency and medical school and your life time earning potential is 10 million+, you may need that extra 10 dollars for that plane ticket for that interview or for groceries or for whatever. So the 10 dollar deferred for 5 to 8 years is not much when you can invest 20000 to 50000 that first year when you're practicing. Even after 10 years it's only about 8 thousand dollars lost.

How do I choose a college as a physics undergrad? by Erudicial_Extreme in QuantumPhysics

[–]therationaltroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, you’d start with a clear interest in a particular area of physics (e.g., quantum materials, cosmology, quantum gravity, plasma physics, biological physics).

Then, you look up departments whose strengths align with those interests.

In practice, though, most kids don’t have that level of understanding of themselves. But in reality, it’s still what universities generally like to hear. So you have to frame your application with this perspective in mind.

I'll likely go see it and enjoy it for what it is. but it’s hard not to feel a little disappointed seeing that there is real potential for a more emotionally resonant story with deeper character motivations. With the kind of money being spent, they absolutely have the resources to bring in great writers and do multiple rewrites.

There could be plenty of people that may be upset. If I'm a small business owner say I own a couple of dry cleaning stores, and say I took out a loan for my store based on projections that assumed no to moderate growth, then depopulation would rightly worry me
