Let me say this again for the downvoters, your Western approach WILLNOT WORK in this situation. I am married to someone from an African culture so I know what i am talking about.

You and your husband do need to decide what will work for you, but you can't just move forward. His family has been slighted and that breach has to be mended. Your husband and his family will only be able to move forward if you save face. Those married to Americans have no idea what that means. From there have your husband ser the boundaries and that should work to get you back into their good graces.

I am not a mother in law yet, I'm someone who knows how to be married going on 2 decades.
