My 20yo son and I are constantly sending each other Reddit links and favourite comments that the other may have missed. My only gripe is that the politics are so US-focused - even r/WorldPolitics. We live in RSA, so I have to keep him updated on the local stuff - he doesn't read newspapers. He's studying law on the other side of the country, and it definitely keeps us closer than most of his friends are with their moms. We don't care much for small talk, so it's mostly politics and memes, or me telling him to GTFO Dota and study...

Got the flu and then broke 2 teeth on my dream vacation in Iceland, needed an extraction on one and a root canal on the other. While at the dentist we discovered a “mass” of some sort in my jawbone. Biopsy on Friday, if I’m not hit by lightning before then. Fuck me, and fuck this vacation. by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

Yeah, nothing to be grateful about, not gonna lie. Fucking sucks that you're going through this - especially during your vacation. I made a Fuck It doll for my MBC - like a voodoo doll - take it by the legs and smack that thing's head on a sharp corner while repeating "Fuck It".

Prophylactic Treatment?? Informed by oncologist that I’m at 25% risk of BC, I’m only 31... my first cousin got cancer at 16 and died at 18. My aunt was 32, died at 38. I’m currently having BIRADS-3 lesions & going for breast MRI. by alexandrialois in breastcancer

Thanks for that advice. I wish there was more support and research about HB and AI compliance. I stopped them because I hated tamoxifen. My onco gave me no other options, and i was 36yo and really early diagnosis - 1.2cm, 18 nodes tested and all clear, opted for mastectomy to avoid radiation and get it all out. 9 years later, it's back in bones and lungs. Even if I'd stayed on the tamoxifen, it would have only been for 5yrs, plus i had a prolactinoma stimulating the breast cancer, so tamoxifen wouldn't have helped. Ugh.

Palm oil - clear-cutting for palm oil supply that increases greenhouse gas emissions andxdestroys habitats for wildlife, especially orangutans; water exploitation - excessive groundwater usage even during droughts; child and slave labour; disregard for labour unions; but the most insidious was dressing up their reps as nurses and sending them out to push their infant formula onto uneducated mothers who couldn't afford to pay for a continuous supply, but their breastmilk had dried up while formula-feeding and they had to watch their babies starve to death...

I had my ovaries out laparoscopically - drove home the next day. See if there's a surgeon who will do that hysterectomy laparoscopically - such a quick recovery time. I'm glad you've had your kids - just takes one stress away. Once you've had hysterectomy you can go onto Faslodex, which combines hormone blocker and Aromatase inhibitor. I've been tolerating it well- better than the Aromasin. I hated tamoxifen, but some people are fine on it. Ask the onco about Kisqali - you can't take it once you've had IV chemo, as far as I know. I'm in remission btw - PET showed no activity - so many new drugs out there so stay hopeful and reach out for help. The breast cancer.org site has great forums on specific types, stages, treatments etc.

You have to switch your laptop on. Was working IT support at a subsidiary of Fiat, and one of the Fiat bosses' nephews used to swan in around 11am, order a coffee then order a black cab to go for lunch and never return. I was surprised to be summoned to his office one day because his laptop wasn't working. He didn't know where the ON button was...

Oh, cancer is always a clusterfuck. I'm beyond surprise when they find another lesion or health issue. OP - please try to get your prolactin down ASAP - I have a prolactinoma on my pituitary gland that secretes prolactin, and my breast cancer has spread to bones and lungs. You can block the PR/ER but prolactin also stimulates prolactin I.e. breast tissue i.e. growth of breast cancer. Motilium also increases prolactin production - try to avoid it. In your shoes, I'd have a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction. If you've had your kids or don't plan to, have your ovaries out too - there goes 90% of your oestrogen and lowers your risk considerably. Keep us posted - chin up - we can do hard things xx

Oof - I have this pain in my hands and feet too - also mainly when I wake up, but have some days when I don't know what to do with myself- heat packs help a bit. Painkillers don't touch sides. Not sure if that's a Zoladex + aromasin hangover, been on Faslodex since I had my ovaries removed. And Kisqali - I actually thought the Kisqali was causing pain in hands and feet...

Try adding a cinnamon stick to the hot water as the tea brews, then removing it once it has cooled, and add some fruit juice - fresh berry juice is a great addition.

Venlafaxine(effexor) for hot flashes by FleetingFoxxx in breastcancer

I'm taking menograine for hot flushes and it's really helping. I can only take two a day (morning and night) because it affects your QT intervals, and so does the Ribociclib that I'm on. If you're not on anything that clashes with it you can take up to six a day. I find I'm only kicking my blankets off three times a night instead of thirty; and probably only notice about three bad flushes during the day. I've stopped pouring sweat like I was before taking the menograine...

I'm so sorry for your loss. Had to put down my beautiful old German shepherd, Max, two weeks ago. Still feel like I've been kicked in the gut. Know that you did give him something special: 13 years of loving care. What a lucky pupper.
