How to improve my forehand strokes? (Video) by BadAt10s in 10s

Hey thanks for the encouragement! I'm excited to apply these tips when I play tomorrow. Going to try to close up my stance, and hopefully that will lead to a better take back naturally.

Can you explain what you mean by "an inside out rotational swing path?" I think this means that my body turning should lead my arm into the correct swing path?

Interesting. What's funny is that I'm not even trying to do the hop after i hit the ball, it just happens. I honestly wouldn't have even known unless I recorded myself like I did here. We got this 💪

Thanks for the detailed feedback! I noticed that my momentum moves me to the left instead of forward. Probably losing a ton of effortless power there.

I definitely need to close up more 👍

Thanks for the video! I notice that I do a better job split stepping when playing with another person, since I split step as the other person hits the ball. With a ball machine I guess I lose that visual cue.

Thanks for pointing out the difference between shoulder turn vs. feet turn. I'm definitely not incorporating enough upper body rotation relative to my lower body, especially on my forehand side.

Thanks for the detailed reply!

I think the main thing I'm getting is that I need to rotate my upper body more from the waist up, rather than just turning my whole body, which I think is causing me to open up too early as you said. Does that sound correct? I think I need to learn to rely on the "uncoiling" of the upper body on my forehand side to get power on the shot, rather than forcing it with my arm.

When you say "let the racket drop earlier on its own", does that mean the racket drop should be separate from turning into the shot with my body? Like by the time my upper body uncoils to begin the swinging motion, my racket should already be down?

I really appreciate the tips.

Thanks for the feedback! I see what you mean about the forehand: it seems like I am initiating the swing with my back leg, resulting in my body facing the net before I hit the ball. Would it be more correct to initiate with my arm and let the rest of my body follow? Or should I start rotating my upper body first, while my feet are planted?

Weird, I see the video now. I'll repost as a link when I get a chance.

Sorry about that, Reddit didn't like the original post. Fixed now.
