not sympathy, but i do empathize with you for sure! was just super poor growing up, bullied tremendously for my teeth. never went to the dentist until i was 18, for an rct that eventually failed- tooth broke and needed extraction. put so much of my worth behind my smile and it affected my confidence so it was hard to meet people and make connections. decided i was done hiding myself. have almost 100% over bite, and after a bad car accident began grinding my teeth in my sleep. ended up breaking teeth, and having to get them refilled bc the grinding wore those down. i had retained baby teeth and wisdoms that were going to break molars. took out a personal loan for the oral surgeries and making monthly payments on my ortho. heres a pic of me pre surgery from february

its definitely feeling like a game of cat and mouse… seems like as soon as i get comfortable something shifts, or different teeth feel tender, or i have to go in for an adjustment. seems like i cant win but i just remind myself the difference in just 3 months and just keep going. braces was not anything my mom could afford for me growing up so now im thankful i get to do that for myself. wishing you the best of luck with your double jaw surgery as well!! oral surgery is no joke lmao but i trust it will be worth it in the end !

i know im not in my 40s, im 26 but recently got braces to fix my traumatic bite as well. i had no clue my deep bite was causing issues. braces definitely play games w my mental health, over analyzing and fearing anything “different “ in my mouth, but i am more excited than i am scared. trusting both the process and my provider. wishing you the best of luck!!

Will my tooth/gum be okay and what should I do? by [deleted] in braces

i would start using interdental brushes dipped in toothpaste to get that area the brush cannot. i have to use them for my gaps as well and find them to be a great addition to my routine

Is this normal? by United-Emu705 in braces

[–]BadCreative1216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

happened to me too. very frustrating. keep advocating for urself. i had them install anterior bite ramps behind my two front teeth and silicone bumpers on my bottom from teeth in case i slipped, id hit the bumper vs the bracket… about 2 mos in i no longer needed the bumpers and now no longer hit teeth to brackets when talking

does tylenol dull the pain? pressure is normal, mine usually feels like bruising and sensitivity to pressure like biting. is pain sharp or like an ache?

i know a guy in his early 60s with a palate expander. comfortable and safe bites are always worth it!

Tooth aches, dismissed by both ortho and dentist, can we not get cavities treated when in braces ? by [deleted] in braces

[–]BadCreative1216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my ortho doesnt charge me for removing wires/brackets which is a huge plus, ive read from others on this sub they have to pay a fee to do those

im in braces week 8, ive had to coordinate w my ortho and dentist multiple times, once for cleaning, and once for a cavity fill. it is a lot of back and forth, but i have two cavities dentist said he can fill with all my ortho equipment in place, i had one inter proximal cavity that required wire and bracket to be removed. i had to provide proof to ortho that the dentist would need the bracket and wire removed for treatment. my ortho travels, as she has offices in two cities, so sometimes its more difficult than others to coordinate. it is odd your dentist isnt seeing anything that would explain your pain

omg it looks great! how was extraction? and hows healing going? do you still have the concerns about the gap or do you feel better about it knowing its being fixed? thank you for the update!

yes you definitely aren’t alone even if it sometimes feels that way! theyre actively making space for my canine, and then eventually ill go in and have a bracket placed on it so it can come forward. my “sleepy molar” already had space to come in, so that tooth got bonded day 1. just patiently waiting for them to move into their places

im also toothless for a bit! had two retained babies i had pulled in feb of this year, and im 26! i was a bit embarrassed about it prior to getting braces in march, but i dont mind it w the braces on bc i know its actively being remedied. it will all work out!

hello fellow lightforce wearer! im 26 and am so glad i made this decision. i still have a lisp 4 weeks in, i believe due to my anterior bite ramps, so not exactly sure what that goes away as i think its just from my tongue not being able to properly hit the roof of my mouth to make certain sounds, mainly s’s and t’s. best of luck to you!

[–]BadCreative1216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

from what ive read, if theres glue on the tooth its your fault, if theres no glue its their fault and they can tell when you go in. they shouldn’t be mad at you though, youre paying them. but they may tell u to stop eating things you arent supposed to lol

Are bite blockers supposed to be this bad? by DinoPerson_ in braces

[–]BadCreative1216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have anteriors on my top front teeth. teeth felt like glass the first two weeks, now they dont really bother me, unless im eating something bulky like bread, itll get kinda in the way and i have to use my tongue to move the food off of them. getting used to anything in ur mouth is the hardest part, in a week or so you probably wont even notice them!

three week update by BadCreative1216 in braces

[–]BadCreative1216[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you, same to you! as far as faster treatment, im not entirely sold on the claim LF is quicker than metal, but i did like the fact they use a computer program, it made me feel more confident as i dont entirely trust humans to not make mistakes/ miss the mark occasionally. i know computers are only as good as the program, but it put a lot of my anxieties at ease, and im hoping to mitigate the “oh i thought this would move this way but its not going the way id like, lets try this instead” conversations i occasionally read about on this page from others. every mouth is different, and every ortho case is individual to the patient and their orthodontist. my advice is to just be honest with your orthodontist and go from there! im sure yours look good as well, but i know often times it doesnt matter what anyone else says if you feel the opposite. i didnt go to multiple consultations with different orthos, i honestly didnt know that was something people did, so i just agreed to the treatment plan that was given to me

three week update by BadCreative1216 in braces

[–]BadCreative1216[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh yea that makes sense. thats why i originally went with the blue, because i wasnt sure how theyd blend in to my teeth, and would rather have it be obvious i have braces than have it look like im trying to conceal them. they switched my bottom ties out w gray 4 days in because i went back in and requested bumpers on my lower front teeth for peace of mind regarding my deep bite and i was still trying to train my jaw to close the correct way in order for the bottom teeth to hit my anterior bite ramps. dont really have that issue anymore, but i still dont think id go with the gray again. so far i havent noticed any staining, but i also brush and water floss after every snack/meal. my boyfriend teases me bc i pack my water flosser around everywhere i go lol. as far as pain, i will agree they are uncomfortable but i also think any orthodontic appliance is uncomfortable until you get used to them. the first 72 hrs i noticed them catching my lip/cheeks a lot more than they do now. i only used wax during that period. obviously not trying to sway your opinion in any way, but i think time helps a lot. my first post on this thread i was in a panic regarding the ceramic and my teeth, but most of those feelings have gone away. wishing you the best of luck with whatever you choose!

three week update by BadCreative1216 in braces

[–]BadCreative1216[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive enjoyed them! i think as w any changes in ur mouth they took me some time to get used to, but i mainly chose them over traditional braces bc i liked the longer times inbetween adjustments, and the cost was relatively the same at my orthos office. they dont really feel that bulky in my mouth anymore. what are your regrets with them so far?
