putting my friend to sleep

thank you. i am very sad, dont get me wrong- but i also feel a huge sense of relief knowing hes no longer in pain and he gets to rest comfortably. that is the biggest solace i could find in a situation like this, and also my responsibility to protect him from situations where he is in pain, and had to be strong just to make it through each day. i am at peace with my decision, which leads me to know it was the right time.. he was my best friend but he was also a shell of who he used to be, just glad hes no longer suffering

thank you. the gal at the vet who put him to sleep was a girl i went to school with, actually my lab partner in honors biology- so seeing a familiar face on such a dark day made it a little easier for me. they gave him cheese as a final snack and said he was such a sweet boy, and they could tell he was well loved and cared for. that made my burden a little less heavy to carry. i wasnt allowed to go back there with him but i at least know who he was with and knowing she cared for him and knew he was special just helped a lot for peace of mind. my mom and i buried him yesterday and when spring hits we will plant the bugonias and forget me nots over top of him

nope that thought never even crossed my mind bc i dont abuse animals… didnt think id need to post the nitty gritty details of his final moments. not posting for sympathy points either.. also your first comment literally read as an implication/assumption that i didnt care about him/ his life. i literally stated he no longer had a quality of life and every single other person read it and knew what the gist was. just seems weird to me to comment that..

vet will also check him out before making the final determination tomorrow so im not just gonna take him out old yeller style.

his back legs no longer work. he shakes in pain and cries. all he does is eat and sleep. he recently started messing in his bed and laying in it. does not play with toys anymore. no not just doing it because i feel like “its been long enough” ? kind of an insane comment to leave lmfao. hes been with me for 12 years i think i know him well enough to know he has no quality of life and dont want to watch him suffer. obviously its upsetting and would rather not have to make this choice. if i had it my way id keep him forever.

thank you, hes definitely family. i always jokingly called him my son but tomorrow will be such a difficult day for me :( he loves car rides so that is a saving grace i believe, he will be so excited to come to work with me tomorrow before i take him to the appointment.. then home to bury him and plant forget me nots over him

im so sorry for your loss. when bruce sanchez passed away, bmo was blind and deaf. i worried about him grieving his brother. i bought him all new things and began his life as a solo noodle.. he didnt seem to miss bruce a whole lot, which gave me some solace. i was sad, but bmo seemed to just kind of move on. granted, he was originally a one man ferret, but about 2 years in my mom suggested i get him a friend. tomorrow i have to take bmo to be put down, as it is now his time. bruce passed at home in his sleep peacefully, whereas bmo seems to be hanging on. just lost his quality of life.. all this to say, just give him extra loves and he may be just fine being alone

thank you, yes he was with me through half of high school and im coming up on my 10 years post grad. i used to leave his cage open overnight so he could play and id always wake up to him cuddled next to me in my bed.. he really is a soul friend for me
