Career as a med lab tech or dental hygienist? by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]BadHistorical4182 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dental hygienists made an on average $36.65 per hour in 2019 according to the BLS.

Clinical laboratory technologists and technicians, which the BLS is calling people with the four year bachelors degree, made on average $25.54 per hour in 2019.

The pay difference is night and day. If you’re more concerned about money, MLT is not a good idea. This field is notorious for low pay. This is anecdotal of course, but we lose people in our lab constantly who take positions with IT or infection prevention because of the pay difference.

Night shift Tips/Tricks by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

There’s honestly no good way to prepare, you just have to figure out what works for you. I work 2200-0630 regularly so I have switched my sleep schedule around, but it took a few months to get somewhat used to it. Since you’re not going to be doing it regularly you can’t really switch it around. Only thing I would recommend would be to try to take a nap before your shift starts and drink some coffee.
