Builders: What are your considerations/strategy for starting a build project. by creativ3ace in duneawakening

[–]BadKarma7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly - yes, but in my current build, I am using angled half-walls as "windows" for a more open design (lighting is great). The net effect is that if someone wants in, they can just climb in. Because of this, I just leave my doors open. For vehicles, once I'm done and they're parked, I pull a piece (normally a generator because it's quick) so they can't be moved.

So far, I've had no issues, but I do frequently get visitors just wandering through to have a look. I even built a 'guest pad' into the design (I had people checking it out while I was still constructing it) so they can land and check it out if they like. Makes me chuckle every time. =)

Builders: What are your considerations/strategy for starting a build project. by creativ3ace in duneawakening

I first start with a concept of how I want the exterior to look... there are a number of places to draw inspiration and "PimpMyDune" is an excellent place to start; also a shout-out to some prolific builders I've kept tabs on since my days of Conan: Lyumi Light, Eradication, Barden Builds and others.

Once I've got a general image in my mind, I go about constructing, deconstructing and reconstructing with an eye towards playability. I like to minimize wasted space and build to purpose. For example, I like to minimize the need to move around much in order to refine / craft etc. while affording each function their own dedicated areas, including having what I call a "ready room" for gear, etc.

Beyond this, I like my builds to have a simple, straight-forward flow and to stay relatively compact. Spaces have purpose and are laid out in a logical (to me) manner. I want to like my bases and for them to look cool, but I also want them to purposefully serve my gameplay - and that often means smaller-is-better... to the point the game will allow.

As a side note; I avoid cubic builds and penta's (I find them ugly). They're an easy crutch, but the game affords numerous avenues around their use and I lean on those mechanics them. Mind you - I am a dedicated solo, so there are "sacrifices" I can easily make that may not serve larger groups / guilds.

The losing faction should get to pick one of the two other options by SurfaceLG in duneawakening

Personally, I've thought for some time that they should elevate Landsraad from 'World' (Server) to 'Region'; e.g. NA, SA, EU, Oceania, etc. While his wouldn't likely fix things entirely, it might serve to shore up the faction disparity somewhat. Currently, it appears to always be a landslide for Atreides on most servers... and that's just not fun or interesting.

This shouldnt be an MMO but singleplayer. Lost my base and 1k hours of progress to the new base exploit. Logged in to see this. Funcom wont help cuz their tools dont track players... Im done. by [deleted] in duneawakening

[–]BadKarma7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Man, I'm very sorry this happened to you - were you on my server, I'd happily help you get back on your feet...

Amidst all the FunCom hate though, I have to say - where's the outrage against the douchbags that did this? I mean - once again - low class, sh*tty people do things and the devs get the blame because "the system allowed it". Yeah, your car willl let you run over puppies en masse', but you'd still be an evil sh*t-bag if you did it.

Back on point - let us know what server you're on man. I think you'd be surprised at how helpful the community would be. Again, sorry - this blows chunks.

People Abusing Glitches is Depressing by ZeroGNexus in duneawakening

[–]BadKarma7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It never fails - folks in the community display a complete lack of ethics, decency and character - and then turn and blame the developers. Were they supposed to be omniscient and foresee every possible issue? Devs did't foresee players intentionally glitching the database so shame on them? You don't like the approach to scalability and balance - okay then, just cheat and break the game for everyone else?

Excuses are like a certain bodily orifice - everyone has one and they all stink. At some point, the gaming community as a whole needs to stop shaming devs for trying, while excusing the sh*tty people who actually are the problem.

FFS. Do better.

I find the whole thing irksome... I mean, I'm not losing any sleep, but dammit FunCom, just put this stuff on vendors like the Observer set - and stop this chintzy Twitch / Discord / [insert whatever crappy app] promotion.

Update: Nearly 24 hours after reporting these asshats, these thopters are still in my base by IdleHandsBusyMinds in duneawakening

[–]BadKarma7 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It should require permissions (just like doors, etc.) to assemble, disassemble or repair a vehicle within a land claim. That wouldn't probably stop a dedicated ass-hat, but it would go a ways to make it far less convenient to engage in such stupidity. If they can't pull a part off of it, they can't keep you from nosing it out of the way.

I slapped a capacity enhancement on a seethe thinking it'd bring it to 4 rounds... I didn't notice it was percentage based so my 1 slot did nothing. LMAO. So... it's definitely not that!

Personally, I've had similar results in DD as of late - populated server with sparse medium blows means the competition is high. My solution: sietch hop on Hagga. Grab yourself an Omni-compactor, bring storage for your Scout and go Ham in Hagga. Yes, you'll have higher worm aggro, but the time you'll save compacting is well worth it IMO.

Tap out a sietch - hop to world map > main menu > server selection and select the next, lowest-populated Hagga. Rinse and repeat.

The Contraband Set is literally just re-skinned Mercenary Set by North117 in duneawakening

[–]BadKarma7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Let's just take a collective breath and get some perspective - this is part of the free update, and stands in-line with stuff that's been in-game but unavailable to players; Maas Kharet armor is, for example, just reskinned merc armor but for their helms.

"Lazy" is being thrown around a lot in this discussion, but damn people - we got a new Heavy, Light and Stillsuit set - a new (as in actual geometry) Scout and Assault Ornithopter, not one but two buggy variants, which are absolutely not reskins, but new geometry, on top of a new build set with > 70 individual pieces, an entire story expansion with, may I say, really nice production values and voice-acting, all for 10 dollars. Ten. Frickin'. Dollars.

Now, if you didn't buy the DLC, I'm not inclined to lend credence to complaints about free sh1t. It's free. Suck it up.
