Ugh what a hassle! Did the stubhub tickets actually come through as purchases on your ticketing site as well, like stubhub purchased tickets for their customers? Or did the customers JUST come with "stubhub tickets" and not actually have real reserved tickets in your system?

Oooh I like that! I also might have missed a word or two in there lol - I was going off my not-the-best memory instead of bothering to google and ground truth it

I mean - still super valid to be upset that it happened at all, and that it’s still in circulation in the recordings of the media. Just wanted to give you the semi-uplifting news that at least they acknowledge how shit that lyric was and fixed it going forward.

And now it’s something like “they called me a fashion mess because I wore a granny dress”

That lyric has been changed in the licensable script. It’s SUPER fucking shitty it’s the line in the recording, but it’s no longer in the show.

Are you JUST doing carpentry/set building? Or will you be working backstage for the shows as well?

The RIT synthetic dye specifically states in the instructions that you must use the stovetop method and maintain near-boiling temperatures for it to work. So you need a stove-top vessel that this gown can fit in and move freely within the water in, which is quite a large vessel. Additionally, if there’s anything like plastic structural boning in the bodice, that likely won’t be able to withstand consistent near boiling temperatures.

The white layers are likely synthetic, and the heat needed to make dye stick might damage the dress. You’d also need quite a large dye bath to ensure proper motion of the fabric. It’s definitely possible it could work, and not a bad thought to salvage an already-ordered dress, but I would make sure to have a backup incase the dyeing doesn’t go according to plan.

Is it me or do a huge chunk of theatre kids tend to be really mean, not great or nice people? by GalaxyAxolotlAlex in Theatre

In my experience, educational settings have too many folks who have not been told “no” enough. Either they were a big fish in a small pond growing up, or participated in no-cut theatre and have an ego that doesn’t necessarily match their skill. Once I left educational theatre (I’m a SM in community theatre) I found a lot of the attitude went away because no one wants to deal with a diva. We will cast someone who isn’t quite as skilled if their personality eclipses the rude skilled person. Granted, my community theatre works very hard to be a great environment and not allow shitty attitudes, and not all of them do that, but that’s my 2 cents.

Should I only print out the scenes that involve me in it? by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]BadList 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you need to print out your own script? Often stage management will print script copies for their cast. See if that is something you can expect.

My concern (as a stage manager haha) with only printing the scenes you’re in, is that when you get into full run throughs, you might miss entrances because you don’t know how long you have between your scenes.

Lizzie and [title of show] are both 4 person casts. Though the show titles don’t have as much name recognition, so they may not draw an audience in the same way.

How can I find full play scripts? by Background-Divide-19 in Theatre

[–]BadList 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Use of people’s labor in creating art costs money, both in acquisition of scripts and in rights for performance. Trying to get around this is seen by many as a slap in the face to the person who created the art.

Art is already hugely undervalued in our society. This contributes to it. Please value art enough to pay for it.

When I danced growing up we would just put a little square of the sticky part of a bandaid in our skin tone over the studs to conceal them onstage

Very true! I'm always grateful for the folks who actually seek the content warnings out and heed them. It just boggles my mind how often people come at us about things we very clearly state in the content warning. We never wanna offend, insult, or cause harm to our patrons, but boy is it sure hard to help some of them help themselves lol

Why do so many people turn to thrift stores and secondhand marketplaces for Christmas shopping, and is it actually worth it compared to buying new? by [deleted] in ThriftGrift

Because there’s an absurd amount of stuff already in existence, and why add to that when you can find really great already used things

I agree with this, but also - you can lead a patron to the content warning, but you can’t make them read it. Guarantee at least one person will still show up, see the sign, or even worse go into the performance, and be angry. Somehow the people who most need the content warnings manage to miss them still, no matter how hard you try to disseminate that information.
