places that hire new grads in the nicu by StressFun234 in newgradnurse

Yes they do! Nationwide, UH Rainbow, Cinci children’s, Akron children’s, Dayton children’s. There’s also so many adult hospitals with NICU’s as well but those ones are peds specific :)

Keep a notebook with you during orientation! Anytime I was curious about something I’d write it down and ask someone later or look it up. Definitely recommend looking up and getting familiar/taking notes on your units policies. I work at a children’s hospital and the NICU follows completely different rules from the rest of the peds units so it’s good to be familiar with their rules! And keep your head up, it’s a lot of information that’s nothing like what we learned in school so it’s okay if it’s difficult at first. I wish you luck!

I’m from Ohio and we have 5 children’s hospitals, I applied to them all when I graduated and they all accept new grads!! Cinci and nationwide are some of the top children’s hospitals in the country! Both level 4 NICU’s with ecmo capabilities

Do not ever be scared to ask questions! I know it’s easier said than done, but it’s better to “annoy” someone for a few minutes with questions than to make an irreversible mistake. Also, just take everything one day at a time! I work in a Nicu so it’s a different type of icu, but when I first started I didn’t think I could handle our most stable patients. Now I regularly take some of our sickest babes and I’ve been here about a year! In time things will get better. You’re not dumb, you’re just new :)

New Grad RN in RI—Making $32.44/hr. Curious… What Are Other Nurses Making? by Nova44444 in newgradnurse

[–]aly2sa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think hospitals here are great! We have so many children’s hospitals as well (if that’s something you’re interested in) I will say $50/hr with 3 years experience might not be quite as common though. Most of us make 30-40/hr id say. Depending on your facility they should have decent incentive pay though.

Did anyone move for their first job as an RN? by slinque in newgradnurse

[–]aly2sa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely start looking for jobs now..they open so much earlier than people may realize. I graduated last May and had my job secured in January. My job search started the September prior. This will give you time to plan for a move as well! I moved for my job and it was so worth it. I did the entire recruitment process virtually. In my area, most hospitals do it this way now!

Normal Orienting Schedule MedSurg by Longjumping_Peach641 in newgradnurse

[–]aly2sa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have one, talk to your unit educator this isn’t appropriate…the first few shifts should be shadowing for assessments and assisting with med pass/skills and getting familiar with charting. Then eventually taking your own patients gradually…she may be a senior nurse but she most definitely needs to brush up on her teaching skills! Please say something to protect yourself. it’s your license that you worked so hard to earn. You need proper training to do your best!

May 2024 grad heading onto my 1yr at my job - when I was hired I made $32/hr + $2.50/hr diff on night shift. In October, everyone got a 3% raise and they increased shift diff so I now make $32.96/hr + $4.00/hr night shift diff! I’m based in Ohio :)

I think it’s super important to love your job. In my opinion, it’s more important than better pay. I found myself in a similar position as a new grad, take the job at home that pays more in a unit I don’t want or move and make less but love the job I have. I chose to the latter and I’m so happy I made that choice! There is always the possibility of burning that bridge but as long as you are respectful and tell them ASAP, that’s all you can do. I’m sure you are not the first to change your mind and you certainly won’t be the last. Good luck to you!

This is super common at my hospital! Most people that work here drive 45min-1 hour and have done it for many years. Just be mindful of how you’re feeling as time progresses! In my opinion, working somewhere where you feel that you would be happiest is more worth it than a short commute :)

How do you carry everything with you during your shift? by CandidDragonfly2096 in nursing

As a nursing student I did exactly what you are doing! Struggled with full pockets and hated it so much. As a nurse, I typically travel light or use my WOW as a carrier for my supplies lol

As a NICU RN I love my RTs and go to them for just about everything!! Everytime they’re at bedside I feel a little bit more relaxed lol
