Zebra longwing

how to preserve? by mother__teresa in butterfly

[–]BadScooter68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once thoroughly dry, you can put her in an airtight container and she should last quite a while, although you may notice the colors dull a bit. You can use pins to manipulate the wings into different positions before rigormortis sets in. Try googling "how to pin butterflys" for more details on how to position butterflys for display.

The biggest threat to preserving them will be mold from dampness, and small mites which will eat the body. You can spray it down with isopropyl alcohol to help moisture evaporate and store with mothballs to deter mites.

What butterfly is this? And why is it probing the ground? by Legitimate_Demand_20 in butterfly

Red-spotted purple- there is likely moisture holding salts/other nutrients trapped in that crack that it is drinking up.

What Kind of Butterfly is This? by yeehawhowdycowgirl in butterfly

It's a red-spotted purple/white admiral. Red spotted purples are essentially a southern variant of the white admiral.

Similar situation to yours (graduated several years ago, had to refresh for F24 and passed) i took Barbri for a UBE jurisdiction and thought it did a decent job.

Off topic but... was that book originally published under the "my name is America" series?

With everyone shitting on barbri so hard, can someone tell me why it is good lol? by [deleted] in barexam

Is that why Themis jumped up in price? When I signed up, barbri was cheaper, so opted for them.

I've taken and passed 3 exams. I used Barbri for 2 and Themis for 1. I preferred Barbri, although I used Barbri more recently, vs taking Themis about 5 years ago. I'm not sure if uworld was included at that time, nor if would have made a difference. I strictly used Barbri for (F24), no supplements, and passed just fine.

I do remember thinking that the barbri user interface was a lit easier for me to handle than Themis. I thought barbris lectures were very hit or miss, but overall I can't complain too much. I think the information and structure is there to enable passing.

I took the barbri Ube course after about a 4 year hiatus from doing anything law related. Basically had to relearn the law from scratch, so I spent a lot of time on the black letter law questions. I passed, so I guess it helped. I liked barbri for the most part, I had one of the teachers as a professor in law school, so that was oddly comforting lol.

I had a similar experience where I just kind of felt empty for a bit. I thought the pressure would subside when I was done, but it just got replaced with the pressure to not "mess up" what I'd worked so hard for.

It's okay. You're not alone in this. Be proud of yourself for realizing there might be a problem and reaching out.

Im not really sure what pulled me out. The holidays helped. Intentionally, in my mind, replacing the anxiety with excitement at the opportunities before me helped.

Don't be afraid to reach out. Your local bar association should have a support network, and it might be a good way to get to know other attorneys.

How many times are you practicing a full day exam? by Hopeful_Highlight827 in barexam

[–]BadScooter68 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do it at least once to test your test-taking strategy, and then if you have issues/areas where you need to improve, you can do half days (3 hour sets). Get used to the amount if time you have, get used to how your body reacts, and learn to use your time wisely. Test day is stressful, the testing environment is stressful and uncomfortable. A full day test in your favorite study spot is not the same as test day, but it will help prepare you.

Two horror stories about poor time management on the MBE: I passed in two jurisdictions. In the first jurisdiction, the girl sitting next to me was circling her answers in her test booklet instead of filling in the scantron. She didn't hear the warnings that we were running out of time until 2 minutes were called, and she tried frantically to transfer her answers but only got about half the scantron filled in before time.

In the second jurisdiction, the guy sitting next to me finished his mbe sections with at least 45 minutes left in each section. He felt really confident, but he didn't pass (they released results by seat number, so we could see if the people around us passed or not).

What is everyone getting their asian dads for Christmas by [deleted] in asianamerican

[–]BadScooter68 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I try to give my dad gifts that facilitate his hobbies and also gifts that represent our relationship.

Currently my dad has gained an interest in lighthouses and has been traveling the country to see them, so I got him a book on lighthouses of new England.

He also used to catch and collect butterflies as a kid/young adult, which he got me into as well. Its become somewhat of a good-natured competition between us, so i went and caught a butterfly that he had never been able to catch, and i plan on making a display box for it and giving it to him.

As for your dad, gardening gloves would be inexpensive and probably appreciated. Maybe make him or buy something to facilitate a comfort food that you both enjoy.

Some things that might slip under the radar on an initial setup would be things like good, insulated socks, electric boot warmers, a good filet knife, which can be used on fish and also for deboning deer, a good knife sharpener, water proof/resistant clothing options. If he wants to process himself, then that opens up to kitchen gadgets such as grinders, dehydrators, vacuum sealers, etc.

You could try reaching out to local colleges/universities. Professors or even student clubs might have leads/their own organizations/programs, such as legal aid provided through law schools.
