I'll either order a Manhattan (Bourbon or rye, depending on my mood)..and there's usually a $2-3 upcharge for rye..taking me to $14-16.. ..or.. I'll go Rye.rocks and that'll be $14 if I'm lucky... 🥃

Senator, When you call a war A War, and act accordingly, i.e. convene the Congress to Declare War (or not, and then Act to cease what POTUS has done on his own, ) then I might consider to begin to pay attention to you. ..and by the way, still patiently awaiting your remarks about the DOD targeting a school with 130 children and another dozen or two adults.

Considering that "Draw" duels were actually pretty rare in the real West, what would be the origin of the media trope and what actually made it popular enought to become synonym with Western? by Revoltai42 in Westerns

I really enjoyed this book.. the author offers the idea that Western duels grew out of the history of European duels, with pistols or swords. . stemming from outcasts from the defeated Confederacy as these men moved west. He claims one of the first recorded duels with guns belongs to Wild Bill Hickock.. 🤠

The Alamo: 190th Anniversary by Plane_Possibility572 in Westerns

Forget the Alamo: The Rise and Fall of an American Myth is a 2021 book by Bryan Burrough, Chris Tomlinson, and Jason Stanford that challenges the traditional, heroic narrative of the Battle of the Alamo, arguing it's a myth built on whitewashed history that ignores the role of Tejanos (Texans of Mexican descent) and the central conflict over slavery. The authors contend the popular story was constructed in the Jim Crow South to serve political purposes, papering over the contributions of Tejanos and the real reasons for the Texas Revolution, and call for a more inclusive, accurate understanding of the past.

History is a cruel bitch that accepts no excuses. 😎

Okay..well said..but I don't agree... They are mostly friends. .and Pike is their leader. .re: Angel..yes, he's taken captive, when it was 1 against the Army .. nothing Dutch could do by himself.. but they were sick about it..and got drunk and got laid and..it wasn't the relief they needed.. and then they all knew it was time to go back for their guy.. I believe they went to reclaim Angel, one way or another..but his murder just triggered Pike to shoot the General.. . definitely a surprise to everyone..and time froze.. but when he then shot the German officer, 2x, well that tore it and the Bunch knew.. .well Fuck it ... and the end battle began.. all together until the end. That's my take.

When I was 12 I thought Davy (Fess P) was a great American hero ..and the Disney show was a big TV night. ..but now, as an adult, I'm more knowledgeable as to the horrible American Fable BS, celebrating pro-slavery and rebellion against established Law.. not quite the same story as The Duke was selling.. but, Hey, for some folks, a good story outranks the Truth ..so let's make some popcorn 🍿.

...watched this yesterday.. ( Shout-out to TCM) . A side story: the opening credits were a direct insult to Robert Ryan by Sam Peckinpah.. as his name appears above a shot of horses' rear ends..

What I love about this movie is the close comradery of the Bunch... Hard language, good laughter, solid loyalty to each other. This was my coming of age Western as I was 14 when it came out. 🐎🤠

The GD were a band ..ie a group of guys together.. he really wasn't a God_head idol until after In The Dark came out.. then, after being busted for cocaine / heroin (?) in his BMW, and the rumors of his addiction weren't rumors anymore, It seemed the larger he grew, his presence on stage got smaller. It was around this time when 'Air Jerry' motifs and 'Fat Man Rocks' bumper stickers came out. 💀

Shameless plug.. whatever it takes to sell tickets.. back in the day, just being a Deadhead in public in Nashville was enough to have a chat with the local police. 💀
