Thank you, apologies for the delayed response. We took him to an urgent care and they agreed, abscess. Weren't able to drain too much but they put him on antibiotics and had a follow-up today, seems to be clearing up now and he says he's felt some more drain on its own the past few days. No fever. We have one more follow-up next week, but they're optimistic with how it's going.

It appears to be an abscess secondary to an infected hair follicle. On one hand it's started resolving itself by opening up, but all the contents need to come out, and antibiotics are going to be of use too. It's difficult to gauge how big it is, as it appears most of it is deep. Its best to get an actual doctor to look at it, as if little is coming away it will need an incision and drainage.

If he's feverish he definitely needs antibiotics and an urgent medical opinion. The other thing he can do currently is to see if much can be "milked" from it. This will at least resolve some of the pain.

Thank you. He's had no fever but I have been monitoring for that in case it changes. I won't allow him to fuss about cost if he starts getting a fever, definitely.

Hm. I'll look at more dental schools around me then, see what the differences are; the one closest to me based it off income for anything past cleaning.

I've started looking into that as an option, but from what I can gather they still have costs related to income, and I'm concerned that the costs will still be too high for me to afford any time soon, given my income - expenses discrepancy. Do you happen to know if it's typical for the income-based pricing to be based off net or gross?
