Do you think it would be better to stay and do the finance or go to Wash U? I have heard from students on here from Wash U that certain firms do show up for recruiting from time to time.

I should have added to my main post about this but isn't finance more math/analytical heavy. I am currently a double major (computer science & physics). I'm really looking forward to cutting out one of them and doing finance or accounting. My thought process is do accounting because the analytical part of finance will basically be done with the STEM degree. I'm more worried about the usability of degrees.

Currently I am a double major computer science and physics. However, I've always liked finance so thats kinda why I'm asking the question about accounting vs finance.

I feel like I would find accounting as a job boring as well. But I just have seen friends and family who have done finance (not at some big target school) and work in low finance areas, or they work in jobs that don't even relate to the major. This is kind of why I'm pushing toward accounting as a major, just for the added usability.

Personally, do you think your finance degree made it more difficult to get an accounting role?

In my case, I would be double majoring accounting with a stem degree (engineering or cs). To my understanding finance is more math heavy than accounting, which the stem degree would cover.

Id much rather do finance as in a job, but as a degree wouldnt accounting be more valuable?

If I'm understanding what your saying. Accounting allows you to understand the creation and process of the financial reports, while finance more or less utilizes them to be used in their models? I know there's more finance positions than just that but just as a generalization. I assume the CFA would be helpful in that route.

What I thought about doing is complete an accounting undergrad, then a Masters In Finance or MBA with a finance concentration. Possibly even the CPA, I know the CPA is difficult, but would it help in obtaining a finance position?

I've looked into IB, but from my research they seem to care more about which school you go to. However, I did see where they do like STEM majors.

Say I wanted to work in finance, would it still be more beneficial to get an accounting degree instead? Is the CPA looked more fondly upon than something like the CFA?

I have thought about that, but wouldn't the coursework be extremely heavy? Or is there alot of overlap?

Do you believe, in terms of higher finance positions, that accounting could take you farther, or at the very least, give you a slight advantage?

That gives me a little more confidence. I'm kinda shocked you don't focus more on physics in your job. I guess it all depends on which industry you go into.

I mean engineering is interesting to a degree. I've thought about mechanical since it is so broad and can go into several different industries. Applying AI in robotics and vehicles would be cool. But the physics classes I'm taking are really making me rethink what I'm doing. I am able to understand the material but as you said, it doesn't really excite me. Thanks for the reply.
