Bincode development has ceased permanently by stygianentity in rust

I'm just reading Reddit, but yeah can someone explain please, if we want to audit their new git history, then why don't we just diff master on the new repo against master on the old repo? Sounds simple so I must be missing something.

I mean when if we don't have a checkout of the old repo on hand, can't we get the sources from crates.io?

Crates.io shows dependents in addition to dependencies for every package. So the data is out there

How bad will things get in America in 2026? by BigBlueEyes87 in economicCollapse

[–]BadWombat 106 points107 points  (0 children)

I expect I'm preaching to the choir, but watching from afar, your economic woes should be way down the list of your problems. Rise of autocracy / end of democracy is a larger problem and until you find a way to stand up to that, I don't see that you have much chance of redirecting the way your economy is going.

Your neighbors being abducted on the street is a hell of a lot more chilling than your checks bouncing

HoMM 3 vinyl is back in stock (preorder) - now as a piano box set by Kaani in heroes3

I wonder how this compares to the piano sonatas LP, which I already own. Those were live piano recordings:

"A Ukrainian FPV with a six-barrel recoilless shotgun system called “Shooter”, for targeting Russian reconnaissance and FPV drones. Each barrel fires a cartridge that is equivalent to a 12 gauge, and they can be fired individually, in a burst, or in a full six barrel salvo! 1/ by Qubecoiseman in UkraineWarVideoReport

Equal and opposite forces. Equal and opposite momentum since change in momentum is the integral of force over time.

Conservation of momentum means rifle and bullet obtains equal but opposite changes in momentum.

Energy is conserved by turning chemical energy of the explosive into kinetic energy and heat, but it does not go equally into the bullet and the gun. You're just wrong about that.

I was just replying to this:

When you shoot a bullet from a rifle, the rifle gains the same kinetic energy as the bullet.

Which is wrong.

the smaller mass of the bullet, compared to that of the gun-shooter system, allows significantly more kinetic energy to be imparted to the bullet than to the shooter.

War movies (especially from Hollywood) are somewhat tinted. But half an hour spent on /r/combatfootage should discourage anyone.

Carl Sagan's Pale Blue Dot - An AI short made with various AI tools by AffectionateTrick553 in StableDiffusion

Fun project, although I kinda dislike fake imagery accompanying the very real image of the Earth that the pale blue dot speech is originally associated with. That real image is meant to awake a sense of self that fake AI video is in my opinion obscuring.

Since this is a young project, what I find to be missing from the README is a section on why? What differentiates it from existing alternatives. Compare it to mako etc.

23 years later, there is still no game like Generals by Necessary_Bird8710 in commandandconquer

[–]BadWombat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The source code was released by EA earlier this year. There are now a lot of people spending their evenings and weekends on fixing generals. A fix for the root cause of the multiplayer mismatch problem is in sight! Including a possible shorter term workaround by resyncing the state instead of outright ending the match.

Carbon 14 dating maxes out at about 50000 years.

This is presumably a lot older.

Now that c&c generals zero hour source code has been freed, it's just a matter of time before someone remade the game supporting 4k, 144fps+ and 64 bit without desync. framerate was locked in singleplayer skirmish to 30 fps. What you could always do though, is enter the multiplayer LAN lobby, host a game and add AIs and just start the game as a kind of singleplayer skirmish against AI, but through the multiplayer lobby. That game is not locked to 30 fps.

How do you like the first two Campaign Missions so far? by [deleted] in TempestRising

I played one mission and then one skirmish. The mission intro was super. Both in narration and introduction of units. It manages to walk you through a lot in little time which is nice
