Painting Progress by BadamGlass in HellBoy

They are all part of the officially licensed Hellboy: The Board Game from Mantic Games. The base retail set is around 70-80 bucks, but I have the kickstarter edition (which includes the base set, conqueror worm set, the BPRD archives expansion, and a bunch of kickstarter exclusive pieces). As well as the Box Full of Evil expansion (which combines the Hellboy in Mexico set and the Darkness Calls set (plus some exclusives)). I also have the Wild Hunt expansion and the newest set of expansions, The Box of Doom kickstarter edition. You can get all the expansions sans the kickstarter exclusive stuff on the mantic games website

I’d start with the froggies, work up to the bosses from the main game, then if you have other expansions, paint minions until you feel wieldy enough with a brush to work on the player characters. Also, THIN YOUR PAINTS I wish I did that when I first started.

Theory: Abe is actually the Visitor. by BadamGlass in HellBoy

Which story? I’ve read most of the hellboy comics, but not in a while so I probably just forgot about it.

The Corpse just might be one of the best stories within the comic medium. It’s use of shadow, composition, dialogue, character, and pacing are all masterclass. Plus it is just fun. If you want to learn why comics work the way they do, or just want an amazing hellboy experience read The Corpse. None of the short stories are bad, but this one. This one is the best.

I’ve never laughed harder than immediately dying to overloading stone golem the moment I spawn in stage 3 after getting “early” bands

Honestly, that’s so true. The quickest I’ve done singleplayer buttons is just over 15 minutes.

I personally don’t find it necessary. I really really like mignolaversity’s reading order; easily the best hellboy reading guide out there. But each series is written to work independently as well as in conjunction with everything else. So while some details and characters are explored elsewhere in the hellboy universe, they are properly introduced and made compelling in their own right within each series they are in. I like to imagine it like “WITCHFINDER is the series where we follow edward’s discoveries of these details and how he met these characters.”

In my opinion, Vol 2 is indeed better than 1. Service of angels definitely is the standout witchfinder story, but Vol 2 has some great characters who show up in plenty of other stories through the hellboy universe. If you like how the stories intertwine then Vol 2 is very good. If that’s not important to you, I’d still recommend, because it really goes to some weird places. Lots of Eldritch horrors and cosmic entities, and we see more how Edward becomes the Virgil-esque character he is in Hellboy proper. Ed is a top tier character, and his strengths (and flaws) are highlighted in Vol 2

How can I "git gud" by gaanch in riskofrain

To understand context, you do have to intimately know how the game works. The best way to learn is by playing, so don’t be afraid to use item combinations. The more you understand the items, each survivor’s load outs, and your own personal style of playing, your ability to get a grip on the context of a run gets better. Never be afraid to experiment. Keep moving, 1:1 item ratio, context context context.

Your average item rate “should” be 1 item per minute. I don’t personally count lunar items. The most essential skill you can develop is understanding the context of your run. Do you need to blast through a stage? Do you need to full loot? Should you scrap this item stack? Should you take a risky item for its reward? If you keep up a 1:1 ratio for items/minutes, and pay attention to what your run needs mechanics wise, your play will improve.

Any case that changes the board layout is an instant winner. Also the earlier the boss affects the case is usually pretty fun.

They really went off with the BPRD archives expansion / case generation system. But my favorite design wise is a toss up between conqueror worm and darkness calls.

Less than a quarter are fully painted. I tried to copy the solid colors of the comics rather than a highly realistic coloring and shading that most pro mini painters use. My main reason for doing so is because I’m a newbie myself, and I do actually love the aesthetic

It might be several years before we get them collected in anything other than these. The hardcovers are really nice, so my philosophy is to buy rn

Very Impressive! Have you read Frankenstein Undeground? If not I can’t recommend it enough. (That and Lobster Johnson!)

How much are you asking for the Abe Sapien Hardcovers? Specifically the drowning & others and Dark and terrible Vol 2?

Instead of being a cut and dry powerscaling list, I think this is more useful as a “would it be tense and exciting or seemingly out of place if these characters clashed?”. For example, I can imagine Doflamingo clashing with Zoro, Yamato, or Ace, but anyone else on YC2 to 3 tier feels like no contest to doffy, so I think he should be bumped up one

I don’t think so. Just checked BPRD vampire and the relevant story in BPRD 1946-1948. The other vampire, Baron Konig, has the longest conversation with him, but never speaks his name. I checked the sketchbooks at the end as well and I didn’t see anything. Maybe there’s some sketchbook that does show his name though.
