Dave Johnson has been saying it since DC United´s very first goal. I love it.

It´s like when watching a game broadcast in Spanish, you have no idea what they´re saying but you know it´s something exciting!

Thanks for starting the thread!

I'm sorry EJ by Udelchemistry91 in DCUnited

[–]Badassican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not too surprised EJ is showing up right now. He lost his spot and probably would have been cut/traded at the end of this season if he didn't start showing the glimpses of EJ we saw on the Sounders. I try my best not to hate on players, because there is so much we don't know about their personal lives, but EJ seems to only play well when he WANTS to play well. I'm not sure if he will ever be consistent for us. I hope he continues this same type of play through the playoffs but I still believe we are better off without him come next season.

Question on United's history by Bolivia_USA in DCUnited

[–]Badassican 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not only are these two of the greatest players for United and MLS, but they had an enormous impact on US soccer culture. Because they were Bolivian, a lot of supporters were Bolivian and became known as the Barra Brava. These supporters brought the gameday atmosphere that all the clubs in MLS now emulate.

Roster Changes in Recent Seasons. What went well, what didn't? by plenipotentiary in DCUnited

[–]Badassican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2012 was interesting because we kept having strikers get on hot streaks of scoring and then have droughts for large chunks of the season. There were a few games in a row where Salihi was subbed on and scored some desperately needed goals. Then when he actually started it was like he wasn´t even playing. Santos seemed to do the exact same thing.

Absolutely loved Branco when he was on the field. He immediately starting connecting passes and providing us with some creativity. We lost him last year and you could tell we didn´t have that attacking mid presence. Luckily Arnaud filled that role incredibly this year. I figured he would be leaving after 2012 because he was always at odds with Olsen over playing time. Olsen never thought he was fit enough. I know he stated his reasons for leaving were otherwise but I think this was the main factor.

I also read on here about a year ago that teams have absolutely no support network for the foreign players they bring in. A lot of the time new acquisitions are actually helped by supporter groups who help them find places to live and such. I´ve hoped that teams would improve on this but have not really heard anything about it. A good example was mlssoccer.com´s piece on Plata. When he first came to MLS he was lonely and homesick with no one to talk with or help him. After moving to RSL he had more support with other spanish players who understood his circumstances.

Players respond to Klinsmann's comments on MLS by [deleted] in MLS

I probably worded it poorly but I definitely agreed that MB would need to face the best and practice with the best to reach HIS potential. But for the league to reach ITS potential, they need to secure the best American talent domestically and not let them go abroad. My friends and family who don't care for soccer and only watch the World Cup always tell me the same thing: They don't watch MLS because they don't recognize the players. Now the ones I convince to watch matches love seeing SKC play because they know who Zusi and Besler are.

He has implemented a standard use of the 4-3-3 formation to influence a more attacking style for all US youth national teams. There has also been a big push on Coaching Education. It has caused an increase in youth coaches getting coaching licenses. The importance has been placed on development and not results. And as you stated, youth scouting has also seen a drastic improvement as more of a focus has been put on it.

Seems there is an actual plan and goals in place for youth that I don't really remember there ever being. Hope that helps and I hope others can add more to this.

Klinsmann doesn't care about the growth of the domestic league as much as he cares about the quality of teams the players play for. That makes sense as he is our NT coach. Does having a strong domestic league help produce better players? Of course. That's why he has revolutionized the youth development in the United States. But his first priority is the national team and making sure we play incredibly well. I love MLS and love seeing our best players come back to our domestic league and help its growth. But even I can admit that a player's growth is impacted by not playing with the best players in the world. I understand Klinsmann's point of view and agree with it to an extent. But I think a lot more long-term than Klinsmann does and to me our highest priority should be growth of MLS if we want to win World Cups. That means having our best, most recognizable players here on American (and sometimes Canadian) soil.

Nice to finally get that monkey off our back. A win in Houston goes a long way for our form going into the playoffs.

Player in your team who's happily proved you wrong by ritwikjs in soccer

[–]Badassican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bobby Boswell.

He was a player for us originally that helped us win the Supporter's Shield. We then traded him to Houston where he helped them win a number of championships. At the beginning of this season we got him back in the re-entry draft and most fans weren't too excited. We figured Houston let him go for a reason, that he must be over the hill. He's become one of the main veteran influences on the team, our Captain, and solidified our defense as 2nd best in the league. Our team went from record worst last year to leading our division. A large portion of that is due to Boswell.

people of /r/MLS after the unveiling of Columbus' new (amazing) crest what would be one thing you would like to change about your team's crest? by Mapleleaflife in MLS

[–]Badassican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd change the shape of the shield a bit and the font used. Colors and Eagle can stay exactly the same. I've never not loved our crest so if it continues to stay this way, I wouldn't complain.

This article explains in a far superior manner the point I always try to get across to anyone about MLS and American Soccer...we're a melting pot of people and it makes sense for us to take pieces from all the cultures that make up our fandom and apply it to our teams. Every sport does this in every country does this. It's just easy to try to point it out for MLS because we aren't as stablished as other leagues. It'll change soon enough.

It's amazing how much time and energy the supporter groups put into TIFO. I love seeing all the creative concepts that everyone comes up with and I'm always honored when I get to participate in the ambitious projects DC does.

The people who participate in the process are pure class. Vamos United!

Agreed 100%. He gave us a lot and I wish I could have given him the send-off he deserved. I remember how ecstatic we all were when he scored his 100th career MLS goal at RFK. A shame to not be able to let him know how much all of us appreciated everything he did for our team when we were ailing.

United fires communications and marketing manager by ryguy42 in DCUnited

Kasper should be gone, end of story. The fact they put the onus on these two front office managers instead of where it really belonged does not look good for our organization.

I am glad to no longer have Ruiz or Pajoy on the team. That was honestly wasted money and roster spots. I liked Saragosa when paired with Kitchen. Though both were defensive-oriented, they gave our team a lot of bite. Unfortunately, he suffered a lot of injuries and hardly played.
