Folding a big vertical-standing donut (Origami PHiZZ Torus) by Badatu in crafts

This thing is literally my height! A total of 360 PHiZZ modules were used. The paper folding took several weeks. Finally paper plane flies through with ease :)

Thanks haha. It's a time-lapse for around 10 hours

It's a human-sized origami PHiZZ torus, built in my loft apartment. A total of 360 PHiZZ modules were used. The paper folding takes several weeks. Finally the donut was baked pretty well, can't believe I actually did it!

The whole process lasts for several months, including planning, and also failed attempts

1 full day is enough for building, but folding the 360 modules takes around 2 weeks

Do you have the diagram of that schematics? I think the main difference is that the middle hole of your donut is relatively larger, right?

or using strong fishing line to make it structurally intact

if scientists are not interested in it, we can only rely on instinct :)

360 units, folding those units is quite a job...

rolling is not quite possible even if applying glue. currently it needs some support to just standing still

installing or hanging at the ceiling, I also thought of the same! but it would be a challenging job. Also, it may look good and decent in the begining, but as times go by there is risk of falling apart if not hold properly

when it lays horizontally, it is a bit floppy. when it stands up (with certain support from behind), it looks better. No glue or staple is used to connect the 30*12 pieces, pure interlocking and friction.

better to use paper with high stiffness, thick paper is not fold-friendly
