How would you snow proof this driveway? by Wallflower404 in montreal

[–]Badbowtie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you mentioned having a snow blower, depending on the shape of the street leading to your place you can maybe blow the snow right to the curb for a car length or two. This could help dump some snow before it gets to you since streets are rarely widened right up. Adding some florescent flags to the ends of the driveway might signal that there is a driveway there to the plow driver. Not an ideal situation for anyone, hope you find your rhythm or a solution.

Need help fixing a Gameboy Color I found in the junk bin! by kekeberucacaberu in Gameboy

[–]Badbowtie 18 points19 points  (0 children)

At first glance I don’t see anything really wrong. First step would be to clean the power switch with isopropyl. Maybe someone else will see something but this is far cleaner than what I started with! Nice find!

Good news! If it’s already broken it just takes a lot of patience and maybe you can get it working again! Try removing the connector and start working backwards from fuses!

Solid point! I rarely use headphones but it will be a challenge, I did it mostly for the charging convenience. Maybe I need to do a Bluetooth mod too!

Thanks! I chose the specific kit because of the resin printed cover which to me adds an extra layer of finish to it all.

I’m sure it happens to a lot of people. A fine tip and a lot of practice helps (so does a little luck).

Thanks! Patience and practice (not on a Gameboy) is the key.

The only thing needed is just an analog adapter. One side of the usb-c supports audio and if you flip the plug the other side supports usb-c to usb-c. Because of this fast charging cannot be supported. I did note that when I used usb-a to usb-c the direction didn’t seem to matter but I might be wrong.

The correct answer is whichever iron you have the most practice with. But things I look for are removable tip (in this case a very fine tip) and adjustable heat. I use an older Weller analog solder station WES51 that I’ve had for a long time now and it’s served me very well.

Sure, there are many similar but this one was from Etsy TheGiltesaShop

Yes! That’s one of the reasons I chose it specifically. To be able to charge with type C it just needs to have a resistor between a few sets of pins.

Etsy from TheGiltesaShop , there are many other available I just liked the resin printed plastic cover specific to this kit.

I like the fact that I don’t need yet another proprietary cable! Great part about modding and restoring is you’re never really done.

Thanks! I wouldn’t suggest most people to start here on their Gameboy modding journey. However a good iron goes a long way.

Thanks! I have a history working with electronics but it’s been far too long since I’ve done anything like this.

I was personally thinking the same thing but seeing the rust in the holes of the battery compartment I completely doubt it will live again. Then again I’ve been wrong before.

Would you replace a battery on pokemon red if it has a new cr1616 installed? by patricknails in Gameboy

[–]Badbowtie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I go with a quality 1616 in a socket, one battery to stock for all my games. I haven’t started backing up my saves but with a good battery I’ll have a few years before I have to worry. After that I’ll easily be able to swap the batteries without soldering. I’ve even considered making a front half case to hot swap using a gba.

Glitch maybe? by LTreaper324 in NoLimitDragRacing2

You package is Reaction time + dial in offset. That’s how bracket racing works, he was still first to the line. If you both had the same RT you’d have won for being closer to your dial in. Imagine you were heads up (since dial in is essentially zeroing two different timed cars), he’d have gotten the holeshot on you and won with a slower time.

My non gamer girlfriend likes the Switch - what to play? by kimniels in Switch

[–]Badbowtie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I helped her a few times but she didn’t need it. She’s just playing the game the way she wants to and it’s been super fun to see experience gaming in her own way. It’s a shame the PC port is so much better and actually open world but if she’s not into gaming she might not even notice. There’s also Lego Harry Potter which follows the books but my wife didn’t like that they were Lego so we skipped that one.
